KLB Hosts Legislative Spouses Luncheon
In early May, Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) hosted a Louisiana Legislative Spouses Luncheon at Hilltop Arboretum in Baton Rouge. Hilltop was selected as the venue for this first annual event because of its natural setting that is representative of Louisiana's native landscape. It is KLB's goal for the entire state to achieve Hilltop's pristine quality. During the luncheon, spouses learned about KLB's litter prevention and waste reduction education programs. Guests were also encouraged to engage with their local KLB affiliates or initiate programs in those communities lacking organization. The event concluded with KLB making a donation for a tree to be planted on the Hilltop grounds in honor of the Legislative Spouses organization. A walking tour of the property was also led by Hilltop staff.

Keep Mandeville Beautiful Awarded National Recycling Grant
Keep Mandeville Beautiful (KMB) was recently named one of 12 Keep America Beautiful affiliates to receive a 2009 Nestle' Waters North America 'Recycle on the Go' grant.
Nestle' offered grants to affiliates who developed innovative projects encouraging community recycling, particularly in public places.
KMB Executive Director Susan Russell explains that the Mandeville project establishes a city ordinance requiring all community events such as fairs and festivals to offer recycling. KMB will provide recycling containers on loan for groups to check out and return and Mandeville public works employees will handle delivery to recycling concerns.
With year-round public events taking place in Mandeville and along Lake Ponchartrain, this grant will undoubtedly achieve real results for years to come.
Through these grants, Nestle' Waters North America hopes to raise awareness about the significance of community recycling and encourage individuals to recycle at larger public venues.
