Rains continue to fall in Sayulita, mostly at night and cooling down the tempertures while the sun shines relentlessly during these September days. Last weekend Sayulita celebrated Independence Day, an important holiday in Mexico and a time to remember the declaration of independence over Spain in the early nineteenth century. The celebrations began on September 15th, the eve of Independence Day and on Sunday September 16th Sayulita hosted the annual Independence Day Parade where children from the local schools participated. The town was decorated in patriotic colors; green, white and red and there was much dancing, music and celebrations over the weekend. Happy Independence Day to all of Mexico.

Anyone looking into immigration affairs and processing their immigration papers will now have to go to the new immigration office located on the second floor of the Centro Empresarial complex on the corner of Paseo los Cocoteros and Paseo las Garzas, near San Javier Hospital, in Nuevo Vallarta. Fireworks and dancing and parades...oh my! Independence Day is one of the biggest parties of the year, and Sayulita did it in style! Starting September 15th, Saturday evening and well into the wee hours of the morning, the plaza was packed shoulder to shoulder with celebrators dressed to impress and having loads of fun. A large stage was set up complete with speakers, lighting, and a 14 man group playing lively banda. In front of the stage, couples enthusiastically danced for hours.  More

There was so much to do for the new CVIS middle school to open, and with a very dedicated team they've done it. Approvals were given, curriculum was developed, community integration of students was put in place, new uniforms designed, enrollment minimums met, class schedules confirmed, and of course an actual classroom built. Costa Verde director, Kathy Nicoletti, says, "There's been a little experimentation, but I'm very happy with how it's going." From the students' faces, I would say they're pretty happy too!  More   

William Edward Kline, son of the universe and mentor to all those he met, died on the same day as Crazy Horse, 5 September 2012, in Puerto Vallarta, not far from his beloved home in Sayulita. He was born on the same day as Elvis, 8 January 1936, in the small thriving town of Webster, which rests on the sunny side of the Monogahela river in western Pennsylvania.  More

Summers in Sayulita are a great time to get caught up on things which got pushed to the side in the bustle of high season. It's a time of heat, quiet, and lots of hungry cats and dogs, and Sayulitanimals has been actively making much needed changes to care for our four-legged friends. Summer has given us a surplus of foster animals and no fosters, a list of improvements with few donations, and whole lot of work without our dearly missed volunteers. But as October peeks around the corner, we know that's all about to change!  More
