Greetings 7,223 El Sayulero Subscribers,
As high season kicks off, familiar faces are arriving in Sayulita every day. Everyone in town enjoyed the Halloween and Day of the Dead celebrations in the plaza, with beautiful Day of the Dead altars decorated and adorned with candles, flowers and photos of those who have passed on. It was a great time to be in Sayulita as locals and visitors took part in the festivities, dressed up in costume for Halloween and admired the display of artistic Dia de Muertos offerings in the town square and at the cemetery.  Today is opening day for the Sayulita Farmers Market, where you can find an array of organic products, wonderful produce, salsas, dressings, gourmet coffee, snacks and other items. Open between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., along the river on Calle Pelicanos. I, for one, can't wait to see all of the bright colors of the amazing offerings and the happy reunions of winter and full-time residents. The market is a great place to gather, hang out, see friends and neighbors and enjoy quality homemade and locally grown foods and other great products. This past week, more and more businesses have opened their doors for another prosperous season. Rollie's Breakfast opened on the first of the month, serving their generous portions of delicious breakfast favorites; other businesses and rental homes are gearing up. Saludos a los 7,223 lectores de El Sayulero,
Inicia la temporada alta y todos los d�as se ven caras reconocidas llegando de regreso a Sayulita. Todos en el pueblo esta semana disfrutaron de las celebraciones de Halloween y D�a de Los Muertos en la plaza con hermosos altares decorados con velas, flores y fotos de los fallecidos. Fue un momento genial para estar presente en Sayulita ya que los locales y visitantes participaron en las festividades del d�a y se disfrazaron para Halloween y admiraron las obras de los altares y ofrendas para el d�a de muertos en la plaza y el pante�n.
Hoy es la apertura del mercado del pueblo, donde se puede encontrar una gama de productos org�nicos, abarrotes, salsas, aderezos, caf� gourmet, antojitos y otros art�culos. Abre de 10:30 AM hasta la 1:00 PM, ubicado en calle pel�canos por un lado del r�o hacia la playa. En lo personal, espero llegar al mercado para ver todos los colores del mercado, las ofertas y participar en las reuniones con amigos y vecinos. El mercado es el lugar perfecto donde reunir con amigos, pasar tiempo y disfrutar de la selecci�n de comida casera y productos hechos localmente.
Durante la semana pasada se notaba m�s y m�s negocios abriendo sus puertas para la temporada alta. Rollie's abri� el primero del mes para servir sus deliciosos desayunos, otros negocios y casas en renta se preparan para la temporada prospera.

Day of the Dead and Halloween Celebrations

 The Sayulita plaza was decorated with altars lit with candles, homage's to those passed away in celebration of Dia de Los Muertos celebrated on November 2nd all across Mexico. The first annual Day of the Dead festival took place on October 31st, November 1st and 2nd where local community members and businesses were encouraged to arrange and decorate their own traditional Day of the Dead altar in the town plaza. Incredible workmanship by all participants was displayed in these altars seen in the plaza over the last few days. More
La plaza de Sayulita fue decorado con altares iluminados con velas, homenajes a los fallecidos para celebrar el D�a de los Muertos el 02 de noviembre. El primer evento anual de la fiesta de muertos se llev� a cabo el 31 de octubre, 1 y 2 de noviembre, donde los miembros de la comunidad local y las empresas fueron invitados para decorar su propio altar para el d�a de los muertos en la plaza. Plans Underway to Improve Beachfront Road

 Plans to gravel Calle Caracol beachfront road from the entrance of Villa Amor Hotel to Punta Sayulita Beach House are underway as organizer Barbara Roche Fierman is encouraging community involvement to improve the road which is currently in bad shape after a season of rains which caused pot-holes and washed away much of the current dirt road. Farmer's Markets all over the world bring local food products to customers and to tables. This week, I was able to bring me to the farm and visited one of our largest growers, the Palomero Family. Like many adventures here in Mexico, we set out with a simple plan to visit the Palomero farm in Valle, do a quick interview, take a few pictures and run home. The directions to the farm were to drive toward Valle, to meet them along the roadside and then follow them to the farm. We should have known then that this might be a three hour tour. Several phone calls and several meeting spots later, Jose Palomero successfully found us and decided to take us through the town of Valle on the way. More

Our son outshines me as a chef, so when he came to visit last winter, instead of buying my usual fillet of fresh fish, our son opted for the entire Mahi-Mahi - I swear, it was four feet long. The fish market cleaned it and cut it up for us, about 9 large pieces on each side, 18 pieces in all (and our son wanted the head and tail for his soup stock). The cost? About $20 USD! Sayulita had it's first Dia de Muertos Festival in the Plaza this year and the altars that Sayulerans made were beautiful and quite poignant, especially given that so many of the people whom the altars honored have died in recent years and months. One of my favorites was the altar for Leysa--looks to me as though she was a feisty woman. It was amazing to see such beauty in our little plaza. See more photos
