Greetings 6,910 El Sayulero Subscribers,
Despite the hot temperatures, there are still many residents and visitors in Sayulita soaking up the hot, hot sun and making the most of the high swells that have been gracing our shoreline over the last week. Surfers all around town have big smiles on their faces and are talking about the big waves that have been rolling in and the expectation of more this weekend. Please see the surf story below to understand just how disappointed the author is not to be in town right now!
 The votes are in for the 2011 municipal elections! Bahia de Banderas municipality residents had a choice between the political parties PAN, PRI and PRD on July 3rd. It was announced to the public on July 5th, that the PAN (Partido Acci�n Nacional) party won the election. Congratulations to our new Bahia de Banderas Municipal president, Rafael Cervantes.

Los residentes del municipio Bahia de Banderas votaron entre PAN, PRI y PRD el dia 3 de julio. Se dio de conocer el dia 5 de julio que PAN (Partido Accion Nacional) gano las elecciones. A San Francisco photographer and frequent visitor to Sayulita has come up with a great idea to give back to our community, as many people generously do to express their appreciation after spending their vacations here. Bonnie Willax has taken over a 100 photos of Sayulita's dogs and plans to create and donate a 2012 calendar to raise funds for Sayulitanimals and the people of Sayulita. More >

I'm back north, so it's natural to compare Sayulita with my American hometown. For example, I live in a culturally rich area - we have a fairly new, contemporary art museum and performance space that is an international destination, as well as a college that has lectures and other programs. We are five miles to highly-rated Williams College, which has its own renowned art museum. Williamstown also has the famous Clark Art Institute, Williamstown Theatre Festival, a film festival and more lectures and programs than you can possibly go to (especially if you stay during the winter to attend). Surf: Lost in California

There is NOWHERE I would rather be than out in the beautiful waves of Sayulita, but alas, here I am in Berkeley, California, visiting friends and family. I was given a look at the waves "back home" courtesy of Paul Van Vleck, who posted some great photos of this week's swell in Sayulita on Facebook. I asked him to share a few with readers of this column, so that those of you who aren't in Sayulita can share my pain--the pain of missing a beautiful swell. God, to think those waves are breaking three blocks from my house, and here I am, several thousand miles away. Poor, poor pitiful me, as Warren Zevon once sang. Dripping With Mangoes

 "You have to come in July; the trees are dripping with mangoes," relayed my friend across the valley in Sayulita. Karen had a special glow, telling me about the yellow fruit falling off the trees and being able to scoop it up by the armload and eating mangoes to heart's content. This week another friend in Sayulita confirmed that at the mechanic's recently, mangoes were covering the ground. Everywhere you look in Sayulita, my favorite fruit is waiting in abundance. Mango season is here in all its almost ridiculous quantities. More >
