Greetings 6,860 El Sayulero Subscribers,

Sayulita Traffic BridgeI am happy to report to those not currently in Sayulita, after many months of construction and anticipation, that the main traffic bridge is completed and OPEN to traffic! The now wider bridge is complete with lamp posts, sidewalks and better drainage for our heavy summer rains. Those of you in town may have had the chance to drive over the new bridge yesterday morning as the road block chains were taken down and the road grate on the south side of the bridge was laid at approximately 10:00 a.m.  Although the completion of the bridge was delayed in the extreme, residents and visitors alike are happy with the end result and relieved that the bridge is done before summer's downpour.

It's a great time to be in Sayulita if you're a surfer. This Saturday is International Surfing Day in Mexico, so grab your boards and head to Sayulita's main beach to catch some waves and also participate in the community beach clean-up beginning at 10:00 a.m. Don't forget the sunscreen for these very sunny afternoons!

Anyone considering traveling to Mexico may want to read this interesting article regarding safety in Mexico. isitsafetotraveltomexico.com lists reasons why you should travel to Mexico and outlines Sunset magazine's 5 best Mexican escapes including Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita!

By Lindsay Walter

Sayulita Verde

Sayulita Verde, a small nursery located on the out-skirts of Sayulita established in 2009 consisting of volunteers and founders, Luisa Viteri & Daniel Brewer are gearing up for another tree planting season around Sayulita. In 2009 Sayulita Verde was able to plant 300 trees and shrubs during the summer rainy season and established a program to protect and care for the these trees and shrubs during the dry winter season. Due to the extremely heavy rains last year in 2010, Sayulita Verde was unable to plant the trees however extensive work was done at the nursery. Sayulita Verde is now preparing for Summer 2011 with plans to plant trees and shrubs in both private and public areas around Sayulita.

Gringo Hill Paving

Two main streets on Gringo Hill have been paved, thanks to a group of concerned residents. The contractor, Alejandro, who was hired independently, had done a great job when he paved another road in the same area last summer. Most of the residents on the hill contributed to the project.   More >

Sayulitanimals: A Note From Sara Briner

By Sara Briner

Sayulitanimals

A while back I attended a community barbeque at Los Muertos beach, and what I saw has had me thinking. There was a large gathering of many permanent residents all having a wonderful time swimming, chatting, playing volleyball and spending quality time with local friends. But what really drew my attention was seeing whole families who brought along their pets. Nearly everyone had more than one dog, and they all looked happy and healthy. They all played together on the beach, seemingly sharing in the same wonderful energy everyone else was feeling. More >

Mas >

Dogs of Sayulita: Then and Now

By Octavia & Daniel

Dog's Life in SayulitaThe following was written 9 years ago for a one-time publication and some may ask what differences are there between a dog's life in Sayulita now and back then?

Visitors to Sayulita will soon notice that dogs play a rather prominent and pro-active role in the life of the town. Indeed, they do have a life of their own, conspicuously woven into the fabric of Sayulita. The town is truly a community of dogs and people, and friend or foe, you can no more avoid dogs than you can people.More >

Mas >

GPS: Sayulita VS. North Adams
By Grupo Pro SayulitaNorth Adams

I live part of the year in a small town in western Massachusetts. It's not quite as funky as Sayulita, but North Adams hit bad times about twenty-five years ago, and although it now has an international contemporary art museum and a local college and is only five miles from the renowned Williamstown/Williams College, it has not really recovered from the drastic population loss the town suffered after the main industrial complex closed in the mid '80s.  More >

Mas >

 Mexican Lasagne

By Maria Zache

Mexican LasagneFrom my summer home in the U.S., I often find Mexican influences creeping into my cooking, picked up while at my winter home in Sayulita, sometimes a twist on a traditional recipe. Just having returned from a long weekend away, I was contemplating what was in the the freezer and the ever-present question: "What's for dinner?" Tortillas, ground turkey, ricotta cheese - enchiladas! Of a sort...   More >

Pet of the Week:  "Tita"
Tita
Why buy a Pit-Bull if you can adopt one?  Two years ago this lovely Pit-Bull mix was rescued from a cruel owner who beat her attempting to create an aggressive fighting dog, but Tita was simply too sweet.  When she showed no signs of aggression, she was no longer valued.  Tita was rescued by a kind woman from Europe and for over two years has lived a very happy life with the family, their four small children, and a variety of other pets.  The family is now returning to Europe and to bring Tita with them is financially impossible.  She has a beautiful personality, a lot of energy and loves to run and play outdoors. Tita needs a safe, caring home with someone who will give her the love she so deserves.

To adopt this pet or make a donation, please contact sayulitanimals
