Greetings 6,809 El Sayulero Subscribers,
Although summer will not officially arrive until the 21st of June, Sayulita residents and visitors have been feeling the increase in temperatures over the last couple of weeks and have been relaxing with the town as it settles into a summer pace. Sayulita received the first rainfall of the year on Tuesday night, affecting the humidity levels in the air and leaving the town damp and the hillsides well-watered for a green summer ahead. There are still numerous activities in the summer in Sayulita and many upcoming events in town; read below for more information about tonight's Mexi-Punk N'Roll band playing at Don Chow's and an upcoming poker run, to benefit Costa Verde International School. The waves this week may not be at an all-time high, but the swell is perfect for beginner or intermediate surfers and best of all, during this time of year,  no wetsuit needed! Saludos a los 6,809 lectores de El Sayulero, Aunque el verano no inicia oficialmente hasta el 21 de junio, los residentes y visitantes de Sayulita han sentido el aumento en las temperaturas durante las �ltimas dos semanas y est�n relaj�ndose mientras todos se acostumbran a la tranquilidad que trae verano a Sayulita. La primera lluvia de la temporada llego este martes en la noche, afectando la humedad en el aire y dejando el pueblo y las colinas bien regadas para un verano verde por adelante. Aun hay muchas actividades que hacer durante el verano en Sayulita y muchos eventos que se llevaran a cabo pronto en el pueblo; leer abajo para mas informaci�n sobre la �nica banda de Mexi-Punk N'Roll tocando esta noche en Don Chow's y un juego de p�ker que va a haber este mes para apoyar Costa Verde International School. Las olas esta semana no son tan grandes pero son buenas para los principiantes o los surfos intermediados, y lo mejor de todo es que durante esta �poca del a�o no se necesita wetsuit. Sayulita River Bed Cleanup

On Thursday, June 2nd the community came together to help cleanup the Sayulita river bed, starting from the beach all the way up to San Ignacio. Organizer of the cleanup event, Tracie Willis of Chocobanana decided it was time to clean the garbage, plastic and debris before heavy rains come to Sayulita washing the pollution into the ocean and possibly contaminating the beaches.  If you missed their amazing performance last Saturday night at Sayulita's End of Season Dance, be sure to catch Sayulita's one and only Mexi-Punk n' Roll Band, Los Gatos Negros playing live tonight at Don Chow's restaurant in Sayulita. Show starts at 9:00 PM.
Los Fantasi Fantasmas will open the show followed by Los Gatos Negros consisting of musicians Treva Dea, Andrea and Gabriel Villarrubia, Ernesto Capitan, and Jess Edmondson sometime around 10PM.
This is going to be one awesome rock 'n roll show, make sure to get there early for a good seat. The place is going to be packed!

Sports Field and Bridge Update For June

The now-completed sports field has seen a lot of activity in the last couple months, with layer upon layer of sand being deposited to every inch of its surface. The numerous dump trucks of sand taken from the elevated river bed served two purposes: to rid the riverbed of the excess silt and sand washed down by last season's floods, and to build up the land base of the sports field, to prevent future flooding and to prepare it for use as a parking lot. Update on Miramar Paving

The paving project on Miramar experienced a couple of setbacks during its first week in operation. Two days into levelling and grading the street, two water pipes were broken, one in front of the vacant lot next to the recently opened Lolita hostel, and the other directly in front of the bookstore, causing a small pond to form in front of the beleaguered flower bed caving under its load of sand. One of the graders also broke down and the crew had to wait a couple days for repairs, while Miramar residents patiently awaited the repair of the water pipes for water access to their homes. More >
La pavimentaci�n de Miramar experiment� un par de contratiempos durante su primera semana en marcha. Durante la nivelaci�n de la calle, dos pipas de agua se rompieron, una frente al terreno bald�o adyacente al recientemente inaugurado Hostal Lolita, la otra a fuera de la librer�a, causando un peque�o estanque de formar frente al jard�n asediado, que ha desaparecido bajo su carga de arena. SayulitAnimals Spay and Neuter Clinic a Success

 Sayulitanimals has done it again! Thanks to an amazing team of volunteers, the spay and neuter campaign successfully performed 58 surgeries in three days. Along with these spays and neuters, Cleto, a cat in the emergency medical aid program, received another back operation attempting to graft skin over a large open wound. This amazing event could not have occurred without the dedicated skills of Dr. Charlotte Burns, Bliss Fisher, and Denise Moroni. More >

Turtle Season Is Back

 As summer approaches and the arrival of the sea turtles begins, turtle camps around the Bahia de Banderas are getting organized for the long work ahead. Two weekends ago, a symposium was held in Rincon de Guayabitos that brought together those who work in various camps around the area, from Mayto to Nuevo Vallarta to Litibu to Playa Naranjo, as well as representatives from organizations such as Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit and others from Sinaloa and Baja California to share basic information about physiology, nesting behaviors, federal protection of turtles, methods for measuring and monitoring, and turtle health. Got the summer doldrums...look no further than the upcoming Poker Run on June 10th to solve your problems. The Poker Run will operate out of 7 beautiful Northside homes who will host drinks and food to all participants. Buy in is 250 pesos. Start time is 6:00 PM At each house, each player will get a card-best hand wins 70% of pot and bragging rights until the next Poker Run. You can also stick around for the after party. Proceeds go to CVIS. There is limited space available and tickets will be sold first come first serve. Tickets will be on sale at CVIS and Hotel La Casona starting June 3rd. After a 17-year hiatus, the Vancouver Canucks have made it to the final round of the Stanley Cup, and Canadians, especially Western Canadians and Vancouverites in particular, are really pumped about the prospect of watching some very exciting hockey over the next week or so, even while vacationing in Sayulita. GPS: A View From The Air

Often we tend to get our minds into all sorts of details without seeing the bigger picture. I thought about this as first my mother (who is holding the record at 97.75 years), and then I, couldn't resist going up in an ultra-light. You know what I'm talking about if you were in Sayulita last month, most days around 6 PM. It's that slow moving two-person "glider" with a loudish motor flying slowly above the town. Actually, we took off from Lo de Marcos and flew along the coast, over San Pancho and then finally over and slightly past Sayulita before taking a U-turn up the coast. Along the way, the ultra-light went down to just a hundred feet above the waving surfers and beach folks, and then up to almost a thousand feet high. More >
A menudo tendemos a conseguir nuestras mentes en todo tipo de detalles sin ver la imagen m�s grande. Pet of the Week: "Soleil"

A starving dog in Sayulita? Really? Yes, they are still around! Soleil was one of them. She spent days under a truck and was seen on our main street, Av. Revolucion! Finally a kind community member spotted her and gave her food and water which she desperately gulped down. They informed Sayulitanimals, and Soleil was promptly put in foster care! She is a small dog, black with white paws, and a very cheerful and grateful personality. She is easy to be around but will need time to be confident around people. She is spayed and healthy. It is important that we find her a secure and permanent home quickly.

 Un perro moriendose de hambre en Sayulita? De veras? Si, aun existen. Soleil era una de ellos. Pasaba los dias debajo de una camioneta y se veia por la calle principal, Avenida Revolucion. Por fin un miembro de la comunidad la vio y le dio de comer y agua que tomo con gusto. Informo a Sayulitanimals sobre Soleil y de inmediato fue llevado para estar en su cuidado. Es una perrita pequena, negra con patas blancas y tiene una personalidad amable y agradacida. Le gusta estar cerca de la gente pero ocupa tiempo para acostumbrarse a la gente. Es saludable y esterilizada. Es importante que pronto la encontremos un hogar seguro.
