Greetings 6,718 El Sayulero Subscribers,
Sayulita is sliding into normalcy and edging toward the sweet serenity of the quieter summer months. The Semana Santa crowds have passed and it's business as usual for Sayulita's residents and business owners. Visitors and locals are enjoying quieter and less crowded beaches from last week. The surf has been up with plenty of room for all riders and paddlers. The Sayulita community came together and cleaned up the town and beach after the busy Easter weekend rush; everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather and clear skies. Look for low season pricing and deals for your vacation rental; summer months bring the joy of a slower Sayulitan pace and a more "Sayulita as it used to be" feel. This week's El Sayulero issue gives us an update on the recycling program and the organization of the local recycling depot. Also be sure to check out the photos of the week of the freshly painted town plaza. The new color has really brightened up the downtown area of Sayulita. Another big thank you to all our readers and volunteer contributors,
Ian Hodge

=========================================

Recycling Update For April
|
By Leah Jewall
Sayulimpia, organized by members of Grupo Pro Sayulita, has hired workers to help keep our streets clean - two men clean the beach, one sweeps the north end of calle Revolución, and another group work at the Recycling Depot. Felipe and his family, along with Eric Steinman, have been working hard to get the depot well-organized. All the signs are up to indicate what items go in each bin. There are also three dumpsters in front of the depot which are for regular garbage and are emptied by GIRSSA, so now you can drop off your recycling and garbage all in one place. More >

The Case of the Multitude of Bees
|
By Leah Jewall
A huge swarm of bees suddenly appeared in the small rose-coloured bougainvillea tree in the northeast corner of the main plaza. Last Tuesday around mid-afternoon, local residents noticed the large oval shaped mass of bees in the small tree situated at the top of the stairs leading from the plaza to the row of businesses situated between the church and Chocobanana Restaurant. Saying Goodbye
|
By Andrea Villarrubia
Crazy - it's already that time of year when our calendars fill up with farewell dinners and parties; it seems only yesterday it was holidays and fundraisers. Humans love to wax on about the passage of time, and I suppose I'm as hooked as anyone: measuring months by how much this or that kid has grown, or who's packing up and splitting town for the season. Mas > |
Guanabanas and The Custard Apple Family
|
By Maria Zache
I actually first had guanábanas, or soursop, in Jamaica; we made juice with the large, green lumpy fruits to have with fresh fish grilled over an open fire on our new friend's farm. I have been in love with the fruit ever since. Guanábanas are in the same Annona or custard apple family as are saramuyo (sugar apple or sweetsop) and chirimoya (cherimoya, anona or custard apple). All three fruits are green with an armor-like skin; the white, soft flesh is patterend with large, black, oblong, undigestible seeds. More >
Mas > |

GPS: Details Count - But Often Aren't Easy To Change
| By Grupo Pro Sayulita
A few of us are working on finding a better collection system for trash and equally important, to keep (and increase the participation) recyclable materials separate. Sayulita is a tiny geographical spot but seems to get an enormous amount of attention in the international press. And in the middle of our town, is our plaza. It's the epicenter of most activity. Take a look at the trashcans. They are not objects to be proud of. More >

Surf: Semana Santa
|
By Justin Henderson
Being veterans of well, only one Semana Santa in Sayulita, we elected to beat it out of town and fled to Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque, where we looked at great stuff we didn't need and couldn't afford, saw some exciting art shows and ate in some cool restaurants, went to the fabu Guadalajara zoo, and generally did the urbane urban thing. It was fun but the pavement was hot and the wind was hotter, and even emptied out for Easter, Guadalajara felt crowded and busy and well, urban. The Big City. More >

Is Your Breathing Stressing You Out?
|
By Josh and Shelly
There is so much in and about our body that we are not aware of. So much that our body does naturally, without our conscious effort. But are the brainwaves and breaths we unconsciously follow the best things for us? Ends up that the way you breathe, could be stressing you out. And while the ocean waves, cool vibes and amazing body workers in Sayulilta can help you destress and breathe deeper, wouldn't it be great to know how to do it for yourself?! More >

Pet of the Week: Punta Negra Pup
| This little boy is one of the sweetest, goofy pups around. He is one of the two puppies found with their mother in Punta Negra. He cannot go back to Punta Negra as there are no year round residents, and there would be no one to give him his basic needs to survive. He was fostered first, but dogs are not permitted in the complex where the new owners live, so he is on his own and without a home. Right now he is a well-behaved, playful puppy, and he will grow to be a medium dog with a big heart! If you are able to help this wee man, even if it's only to foster, please contact us immediately. Summer is upon us, so it is time to round up all our furry friends and give them the care they so richly deserve.
For information and/or donations, please come visit the Sayulitanimals' table on Fridays at the Farmer's Market.

Photo of the Week: Sayulita Plaza Pretty in Pink
|
Photos by Donna Day
Just in time for Easter, Sayulita Plaza got a new paint job. Pink--bright pink, with pink and green trim and some turquoise benches thrown in for some eye-popping pleasure. I'm happy to pronounce: Sayulita looks pretty in pink! I love it!
Me encanta. See more photos Ver mas fotos
