Greetings 6,322 El Sayulero Readers,

Mid January in Sayulita and as work continues on our new traffic bridge, the town hopes to have it up and working in the near future. Meanwhile everyone is enjoying our beautiful weather as visitors and locals either splash in the waves, surf or take a stroll along the beach. Newcomers to town may want to remember pack a couple sweaters and long pants as it continues to be a bit cool in the evenings and early mornings in Sayulita.

I hope everyone has had a chance to enjoy the circus in town set up at the soccer field on the North side. It is an entertaining show for people of all ages. Check out the great photos of the circus below taken by Donna Day.

Wishing all of our readers and contributors a wonderful weekend and hoping you enjoy the following El Sayulero articles.

=========================================

By: Leah Jewall

A makeshift pedestrian bridge of sandbars and boards has been created at the foot of Palmar at the river crossing. The bumpy byway has been used by vehicles as an alternate route to the south side of Sayulita with the principal access to calle Revolución being from the Punta Mita road while the traffic bridge is under construction. The pedestrian bridge has been built to the east side of the Palmar crossing, allowing access for both vehicles and foot traffic. More >

Sayulita Street Dog Finds Good Home

Bella

By: Lindsay Walter

New Year's eve, Narayani of Paraiso Yoga found a dog sleeping in pretty bad shape in the street outside Paraiso yoga. After three days and asking local neighbors if the dog belonged to anyone, folks only said that about a month ago this dog was wandering around different neighborhoods ... nobody wanted it, and people would shoo it away by throwing sticks and stones.  More >

Time is an Illusion in Sayulita

clock

By Nayarani from Paraiso Yoga

Time is an illusion and while we see this in almost every philosophy and religion book, weather we want to or not, our day to day activities are organized over a 24-hour day. Sayulita has always been confusing with respect to time and has never had the Central Time Mexico City and in this age where cell phones and computers automatically change the time, sometimes can not be correct.  More >

Mas >

  Paramedics in Sayulita?

Sayulita Emergency

By Dr. Moises Cuevas

If you live in Sayulita, you surely know that when an emergency happens, an ambulance takes too long to arrive. In top of that If roads and bridges fall down, we don't have too many options for dealing with an emergency.

Grupo Pro Sayulita:
You Can Always Go.... Downtown!

GPSGrupo Pro Sayulita

Remember that song?  (Patula Clark)   Well, in Sayulita, everyone gravitates to the plaza.  The plaza is the town's living room, and a place where you'll bump into each other.  It's been equally important to Grupo Pro Sayulita.  First of all, we now have our weekly meetings at Calypso  - above the plaza.  But going or coming, members bump into each other and the next thing you know, they are talking shop.  More >

Mas >

Surf: A Paddle-Out For Carol

A view from the line upBy: Justin Henderson

On Tuesday, January 11th, Carol Rupert's husband Tom and a group of her family, friends and neighbors celebrated her 60th birthday on the beach and in the water in front of the trailer park on Sayulita's north side. Tom wanted to remember Carol, who passed away last year, in this special way to evoke her own relationship with the sea-Carol and her friends loved to swim or paddle their boogie boards out to a buoy moored a few hundred yards offshore, and from there swim and play in Sayulita's beautiful bay.   Food: Leftovers - A La Mexicana
By Maria Zache
Food
Poco a poco; we're becoming more Mexican all the time. Learning to use what we have, doing more daily shopping, using more food items right away when freshest instead of relying on our (small) refrigerator, eating more vegetarian meals, choosing the simple and delicious standbys such as a big 'ole pot of beans and stretching a meal into more by thoughtful use of the leftovers are all Mexican habits that my husband and I have slowly started to incorporate more and more into our Sayulitan lives. Home & Away:
Losing Our Keys, Losing My Mind

By Letitia Gumby

keysFor the third time in two weeks, I received an email from our property manager saying that guests have checked out and taken the keys with them.  This has never happened before.  Even though we're not in Sayulita right now, we know that our guests are conscientious about locking the apartments and leaving the keys with the maid or in the secure box when they check out.  We've had no problems in the past, so why now?  More >

Mas >

  A Team Impact

By Sayulitanimals

team impactSayulitanimals has always been a non-profit organization functioning solely on volunteers and donations, but we found to truly take care of the animals we so dearly love, we had to have a veterinarian's help. We were unable to hire a vet full-time, and there simply was not enough money to pay for non-affiliated medical aid. As this dilemma threatened to shut down so much of what we do, two people came into our organization that changed everything, Marcia Alvarez and Gabriel Tonatiuh Trejo.   More>

Pet of the Week:
"Isabella"

Isabella
This is Isabella. A couple from Australia was visiting for a few months and adopted her from Sayulitanimals.  They had planned on taking her home with them only to find that shipping Isabella to Australia and the quarantine would cost over $8,000 USD. They are not able to pay that and are completely heartbroken. Isabella is a beautiful 10 month old puppy.  She is friendly, playful and very affectionate with a calm, mild manner. She has all of her shots, is very obedient, and loves to cuddle!  The owners, as well as Sayulitanimals, hope that she can go to a happy home as soon as possible!

For information and/or donations, please come visit the Sayulitanimals' table on Fridays at the Farmer's Market.

To adopt this pet or make a donation, please contact sayulitanimals

Gran Circo Comes to Sayulita!

There's something exciting about seeing a circus tent. Those big stripes seem to hold some mystery. Gran Circo does not disappoint. In fact, a movie--Circo--has been made about this sweet family circus and has recently been shown in film festivals all over the world. The Ponce family has been living and performing this circus all over Mexico since the late 19th Century! The main star of the show, a young man, is clown, trapeze artist, tiger tamer and seller of cotton candy at intermission.

Gran Circo no defrauda.
