Greetings 6,295 El Sayulero Readers,
Happy New Years Eve to all of you. I trust everyone is enjoying his or her last day of 2010 whether it is under the shade of a Sayulita palm tree or somewhere else in the world where you are probably dreaming of Sayulita. We are running at about 82 degrees today (28 Celsius) with blue skies, light winds and a calm ocean. Our Sayulita year is wrapping up with the village full of very happy visitors and local residents enjoying the weather, activities, food, shopping and everything else offered in this magical place. The Christmas/New Year's tourist population has been a very welcome arrival to all of our rental home and business owners, most of whom suffered not only a decrease in occupancy/sales in the Fall and early Winter but also unexpected repair and fix-up costs due to the torrential rains in October. However, I am very thrilled to personally say that the town has never looked better! Our beach is 5X as big as last year. There is a variety of new restaurants at which to dine. New galleries line the cobblestone streets and the shopping just gets better and better. Gone are the days when someone simply throws a coat of paint on an old building and writes their business name on a sign. Many of the new and old Sayulita businesses have invested a great deal of time and funds to create beautiful storefronts (and beachfronts) appealing to the locals and visitors eating, shopping and recreating in our village. Sayulita has never offered such a plethora of QUALITY goods and services. Congratulations to all of our home and business owners. So here is a toast to all of you who have worked so hard to create such a special town where residents and locals alike can enjoy a true paradise whether they are vacationing, working, or just living the life. Happy 2011 to all!Pick of the week: Make sure to try out the Lucas new menu at Miro Vino where the handmade raviolis stuffed with shrimp, carrot and zucchini served with a lobster bisque are incredible.

Grupo Pro Sayulita: How I Got Involved With GPS
| Grupo Pro Sayulita
I'm in the final few weeks serving as 2010 president of Grupo Pro Sayulita. How did I first get involved with GPS? Like many of you, I had only a vague idea that a group existed. The main thing I knew was that there was an effort to raise money for the water treatment plant, and in order to help, they were holding a Fiesta-fundraiser. More

Home and Away: Mexico Helps Us Survive Canada

Winter in Montreal, Canada can be interminable. The sun rises at 7:45a.m. and sets at 4:24p.m. these days. The temperature right now is -17 C. The short, cold days too early become longer, colder nights. The husband and I disagree sometimes on what the future holds for us. More

Surf: A Christmas Gift
| By: Justin Henderson
Christmas Eve After dinner with family, friends and neighbors
Twas the night before Christmas And across the Pacific Not a wave was breaking Not even a ripple
Our boards were all waxed And ready to ride As we waited for waves On the incoming tide But there were no waves No, not a single one The ocean was lakelike Gentle as a lamb When what we wanted and needed was a roaring lion A raging beast of a swell to bring it all back home More

Food: Translating Traditions, Christmas Extended
| By Maria Zache We norteños sometimes have to translate a little when celebrating the holidays in our pueblo, Sayulita. The guests staying at our neighbor's house showed up brimming with the holiday spirit with full intentions to bake Christmas cookies...until realizing that their rental casa did not have an oven. No matter. Having been visiting Sayulita for the past 16 years, they quickly arranged to bake their cookies in the oven at Antonia's restaurant, just down the street. I'm guessing that Antonia's grandchildren shared a few of those gingerbread men. More
No importa. Mas

By Andrea Villarrubia Living in a foreign country, I find renewed appreciation for the traditions of my home, my family, my youth. There's something extra fun and rewarding about taking a ritual out of its well-known context and sharing it with those who either are completely unfamiliar, as well as those who perhaps have their own memories and experience to draw upon. Pet of the Week: "Loba"
| Loba is all that is great about having a dog. She is loyal, playful, and extremely affectionate. Unfortunately, she has chosen to stay at a home that can't afford to keep her. They have five dogs and desperately need to find her home. She only gets the scraps of the other dogs, and that is not much, at most a few kibbles every couple days. Her personality and desire to be loved make her worth so much more. She is very healthy and has been spayed. She is a small dog and loves to be with people all the time. If you want a dog in your life and heart, she would be a perfect fit.
To adopt this pet or make a donation, please contact sayulitanimals
