Greetings 6,164 El Sayulero Readers,
The first week of December finds Sayulita truly bustling with tourists and locals preparing for the Christmas season. The season's celebrations have begun and the upcoming Lady of Guadalupe day kicks off on December 12th. In the upcoming days of celebration, be sure to check out the many festivities that will be ongoing throughout the month, with parties, church bells ringing including early morning fireworks and various bands playing.
 I figured many of our readers who conduct some sort of business here in Sayulita as either a homeowner or a small business owner will quickly empathize with Madonna's plight after the grand opening of her new mega-gym in Mexico City. Apparently even one of the world's most famous entertainers, who had the mayor of Mexico City attend her grand opening, still cannot overcome the notorious delays and frustrations of Mexican bureaucracy. A reminder that the Sayulita Farmer's market takes place every Friday from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Casa de Cultura in downtown Sayulita, on the corner of Avenida del Palmar and Gaviotas, one block from the beach. Locally grown vegetables, homemade baked goods, organic and gourmet foods and bath and body products among other items await you.
On a sadder note, Sayulita has lost a local community member, (read below). Francisco Javier Lopez Alvarez passed away in hospital after a serious car accident. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and loved ones he leaves behind.

Es la primera semana de diciembre y Sayulita se encuentra movido con turistas y locales preparándose para la temporada navideña. Las celebraciones de la temporada han comenzado y día de Guadalupe es el día 12 de diciembre. Durante los días festivos que se acercan, procúrense disfrutar las celebraciones que van a haber durante este mes con las posadas, fiestas, campanas sonando, incluso cuetes en las madrugadas y escuchar las bandas tocar. Me imagine que nuestros lectores que tienen negocios aquí en Sayulita se pueden identificar con Madonna y su apertura de su nuevo gimnasio en la ciudad de México. Parece que hasta una de las artistas más famosas quien invito el presidente de México a la inauguración, tampoco puede evitar las demoras y frustraciones de la burocracia Mexicana. Sayulita Mourns the Death of Local Youth

The Ceiba Tree in Sayulita

 Known as the Sacred Tree of Life and the most important tree in the Mayan culture, the Ceiba tree can be found locally in Sayulita and its surroundings. Its medicinal properties as well as cosmologic revelance makes this tree a revered tree to this indigenous group. It is viewed as the energy connection between the Cosmos, Earth, and the Underworld and is referred to in many ceremonies. Pet of the Week
"Emfi"
|
 Three months ago Emfi, along with two other dogs, were abandoned in the jungle by their family. Emfi and one other survived and are now hoping to be adopted into a loving and caring family. Emfi is a puppy, around six months old and will be a medium sized dog. He is healthy and currently being trained to live both indoors and outdoors. He is an extremely charming, playful little boy who is very friendly and loving. Having a rough start to life, he is ready to be a great family member! Hace tres meses Emfi, y otros dos perros fueron abandonados por sus familias en la selva. Emfi y uno más sobrevivieron y ahora esperan ser adoptados por una familia cariñosa. Emfi es un cachorro que tiene seis meses y crecerá a tamaño mediano. Lo están entrenando para vivir adentro y afuera. Es un perro encantador, juguetón y muy amigable y cariñoso. Con un comenzó difícil en la vida ahora es listo para ser miembro de una familia.

On Sunday my family and some friends went out on the Chica Locca, a catamaran. The idea was to go to the Marietta's, do some snorkeling, swimming and, of course, take pictures. Where were you born and where did you study?
I was born in my mother's bedroom in Ninga, Manitoba, a village of fifty people. I studied to be an aesthetician in Brandon, Manitoba. Later I worked with my mother, who owns a café and pub, gift shop and spa, and she taught me the dynamics of opening and running a business.
When did you first come to Mexico?
I first came to the Baja Peninsula when I was 10 on vacation with my parents. We visited every year after that to many different parts of Mexico, both coasts, the Yucatan, and I first visited Sayulita in 2005.
¿Dónde naciste y qué estudiaste?
Nací en la recámara de mi madre en Ninga, Manitoba, una aldea de cincuenta personas. Después de terminar la escuela secundaria, estudié para ser esteticista. Luego trabajé con mi mamá, quien es dueña de un café y pub, una tienda de adornos y un spa, y me enseñó todo lo de iniciar y ser propietaria de un negocio.
¿Cuándo viniste a México por primera vez?
Vine con mis padres de vacaciones por primera vez cuando tenía diez años. Visitamos México todos los años y viajábamos a diferentes partes, las dos costas, el Yucatán, y vine a Sayulita por primera vez en 2005.
