Greetings 5,479 El Sayulero Readers,
I trust this exceptional Sayulita summer is treating everyone well and those who are out of town this season are enjoying the summer with friends and family. These have been perfect days in Sayulita to head to the beach, enjoy the warm ocean water and a less crowded village all the way around. Although there are not as many tourists at the beach as in our high season, we are seeing quite a few European visitors in Sayulita this summer. Frontier Airlines has announced flight service from St. Louis to Puerto Vallarta and Alaska Airlines posted a recent article on a San Diego-Puerto Vallarta route that Alaska Airlines will begin on November 12, 2010 to end on April 11, 2011. Men's Fitness magazine has named Sayulita among their list of top Five Fantasy Adventures. Click and scroll down the list to check out more on
what this article has to say about Sayulita as a fantasy destination. The New York Times has posted a survey asking their readers to vote for the Best Places to Travel in 2010 El Sayulero encourages all Sayulero readers to register (free and easy) and vote in this survey. Show the world that Sayulita is one of the best places to travel this coming year. Sayulita is number 60 on this (up from 279) thanks to everyone who has voted so far. SayulitaLife.com has created a Facebook web page for those who are fans of our beautiful town Sayulita. Become a fan on Facebook and share what it is you love most about Sayulita.
2011. La revista Men's
El New York Times

Sayulita Boomtown
| By: Leah Jewall
Generally speaking, and particularly on the North American front, the
world economy is slowly making a recovery, and nowhere is it more
evident than our blossoming town of Sayulita. Now that we are well into
the off-season, it's time for many businesses to spruce up their
interiors and/or to renovate in preparation for the upcoming tourist
season.

SAYULITA VERDE - A Community Initiative with an Interest in a Greener Sayulita
| Last summer, 2009,
Sayulita Verde planted close to 300 trees (most of them native) in various
public places in Sayulita including the river banks and along roads and
highways. In addition many trees were freely distributed to local residents
who requested them to plant on their lots or in their ranchos.
All of these
efforts have been by volunteers ..... digging, preparing holes and planting with
careful preparation and sturdy protection used to ensure the highest survival.
This has proved to be successful, with only a handful of losses. A continuing
program of maintenance and watering has been undertaken. Those involved are
pleased with the outcome, and we have been receiving lots of positive
feedback from local people, and visitors to our town who have endorsed and donated
funds to our continuing work. Now
we need to form a team of dedicated volunteers to plant this summer's
trees We
plan to start planting around the middle of July, after we have had several
good rains. If
you are interested or can help please phone: Luisa 322 135 5150
OR Daniel 329 291 2037
Donations of
your time, equipment, plants and or funds are greatly appreciated and will
support the natural-and-Green-Development of Sayulita *

Take Your Kid to Work (every) Day!
| By Andrea Villarrubia
Lately I've been reflecting on the wonderfully supportive and practical
culture that we live in, where many a kid grows up next to their

Surfing Hurts

Grupo Pro Sayulita - A Personal View of Our Two Cultures
| By: Grupo Pro Sayulita - Eric Rudd
As everyone knows, Sayulita has undergone a big change, from a poor
fishing village to a major tourist destination that has stimulated
tremendous growth and an influx of new residents. Some Gringos view
this as good and others see it as ruining the charm. Mexican residents
are equally split. What I've been focusing on as President of Grupo
Pro Sayulita is finding ways the two cultures can come together for
common goals. More >

The Mexican Pantry
| By: Maria Zache
"What's for Dinner?", the oft-repeated query that must be answered
every day is a cliché for a reason. To point out that our bodies must
be fueled seems such an obvious statement and so much has been written
about providing that fuel, it seems almost ridiculous to mention it
again. In addition, the subject of easy weeknight meals has really been
quite well-covered in the food writing world. But there we are: it's
late afternoon, time to head toward home and the daily question looms,
waiting patiently (or not) to be answered. What's for dinner? More >
Mas >

Beaches Around Sayulita
| By: Astrid Vanya
The greatest thing about Sayulita is that there are lots of beaches.
Since it is summer vacation we can go to different beaches everyday! The beaches I like are Enclote, Litibu, La Lancha, Sayulita Beach and
Los Muertos. The reason why I like Enclote is because there is food
that you can buy at restaurants.

Chicharras in Sayulita
| By: Octavia & Daniel
Every year, a few weeks before the first rains come, when the jungle is
hot and dry, the cicadas begin singing in the evening just around
sunset. It is a shrilling sound that leaves you wondering what could
create such a loud, piercing noise. When you find the source of the
sound, it is surprising to find that it is an insect, perching calmly
on the branch of a tree, creating one of the most distinct songs of the
tropical forest. Locally they are called chicharras, and when they
appear everyone recognizes that the first rains are not far off.

Pet of the Week: "Cuervo"
|
This is Cuervo. He avoided being neutered in May and then he got hit by
a car in June and had been living with a very painful broken leg and
getting skinnier since then, due to total neglect by his "owner". A
Sayulitanimals volunteer brought him to the clinic for advice from Dr.
Charlotte Burns on Sunday, the second day of the spay/neuter clinic. He
was so compromised and weak that we debated the pros&cons of trying
to help him. The "owners" had relinquished him to us. As a group we
decided to help him. His leg was amputated and he was neutered. He
spent the night on IV fluids, antibiotics and good pain medication. The
next morning we were greeted with a weak tail wag. Every day since,
this lovely black dog is getting stronger, happier and more loving. It
is truly amazing how getting rid of a painful leg, some good food, love
and a safe place to say can rehabilitate a wonderful being. Support Sayulitanimals! Only with your donation are we able to continue
with actively helping the poorest dogs and cats. Or become a foster
parent and be the link from misery to happiness for a four legged (or
three legged!) friend. please contact Sara Briner of Sayulitanimals to adopt or make donations.

Interview With Charlotte Burns An Honorary Sayulera

Where are you from? I grew up in Berkeley, California. I then moved to Boston to attend college. I am now living in California again.
What made you become a voluntary vet for the Sayulitanimals Spay and Neuter clinics here in Sayulita? Dr.
Holmes, a vet who had made a trip to Sayulita to be part of a previous
spay and neuter clinic back in January, told me about the program and
about the town of Sayulita. We work in neighbouring towns and often
have veterinary meetings. Dr. Holmes discussed his experience here in
Sayulita at one of these local veterinary meetings and I was interested
in what he had to say about Sayulita and Sayulitanimals. Dr. Holmes was
planning another trip down in March and I decided to also come down to
be a part of the Spay and Neuter Clinic.
