Greetings 5,211 El Sayulero Readers,

If you are in Sayulita and reading this issue please STOP and head down to the Farmers' Market open until 1PM.  Check out organic produce, yogurt, farm fresh eggs, breads, baked goods, lotions, tamales, pesto, cheese, chutney, sandwiches, etc.  I highly encourage all of your support of this incredible new village asset.

Garbage:  It seems the small garbage truck is out of commission for the time being. This means homeowners (and their staff) need to be extra diligent about placing garbage out ONLY IN THE EARLY MORNINGS on designated pick up days for respective neighborhoods.  Past garbage article is located here.

Our newsletter and website is once again full of great articles thanks to our staff of volunteer contributors.   Gracias, gracias, gracias to all of these writers!  Rumors of a Rotary Club in Sayulita along with food, fitness, and local events make for some great Friday afternoon reading.

I hope you enjoy the articles below.

Saludos,

Ian Hodge

Saludos,

Ian Hodge

Recycling - A Struggle
By: Grupo Pro Sayulita

GPSMost communities struggle with how best to recycle.  While it is the socially responsible thing to do, the hard truth is that the income from recycled plastic, cardboard and glass does not cover the cost of collection, sorting and selling.  Up until recently, there have been other foundations helping and Grupo Pro Sayulita had to only contribute part of this cost.  Now those funding sources have dried up.

Sayulita Coffee Culture, Part III
By: Maria Zache

Sayulita Food"The coffee is really good; I like it better than the other kind we get," my husband commented just this past weekend.  "That's because it's Julia's coffee," I reminded him and was instantly carried away to my trip to Julia's coffee plantation in La Yerba, a small mountain village north of Sayulita.
The Secret Spot

SurfIn the surfing world, a "secret spot" has long been recognized as unique: a place unknown to others, where you and your friends ride great waves with no crowds, no competition, no aggression, none of the people or things that routinely spoil the magic of surfing. Secret spots are all about that magic.

Protein - Why It Is So Important

A News Cafe Story

Nestled along what is now called the Riviera Nayarit, 25 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, Sayluita has an easy, relaxed attitude that welcomes everyone. While experiencing the tranquility of the beach on our first day in Sayluita, we were approached by vendors and artisans selling silver, pottery, barbecued shrimp, tamales, macaroons, and many, many textiles.

Special Kids Day--that's what my daughter calls it. How it differs from any other day where she gets special treatment all day long is a mystery to me. That's not the case with every kid, though. We all need to remember to reach out to the youngest members of our community--random acts of kindness, that sort of thing. Sayulita kids are a pretty great bunch--here are some pictures of local kids I've taken over the years.

Nina - A Lesson In Love And Loss

NinaMany of you have heard of our sweet friend Nina. She was an energetic husky cross that exemplified what a hard life some dogs endure. And that sometimes luck will find them. After almost being shot for killing a chicken, her new owners decided to keep her out of trouble by tying her to a tree. She spent months in the Mexican summer's pouring rain and sizzling sun. Malnourished, neglected and abused, Nina was in dire need of help. Her health had severely deteriorated and she could be heard day and night whimpering and crying in pain. More>
