Greetings 5,155 El Sayulero Readers,
"Puerto Vallarta never really had a season this year" was
directly quoted to me yesterday by a 15-year restaurant owner in PV. In direct contrast, Sayulita has experienced (and is still experiencing) a banner year with
thousands of spring and summer reservations yet to come. I think we can attest much of this
success to not only exceptional community spirit portrayed by local home
and business owners, but also to all of our ability to work together as a team
providing an excellent livable and tourist vacation destination. Congratulations to everyone!
We launched the new look and feel for SayulitaLife.com 4.0
this week so please take a moment to check it out and report any errors or
problems you experience. There are
still some minor tweaks to perform but all-in-all we are very happy with the
way the new website captures the flavor and ambiance of Sayulita. I would also like to introduce a new writer, Justin
Henderson, who will be bringing us weekly updates on the local surf scene in
and around our village. Henderson is a
writer by trade so we look forward to his witty insight to our most popular
sport.
Pick of the week: Smoked marlin burritos with homemade mango salsa at Medusa.
Do not miss: Sayulita Plaza Reception with GPS. This evening from 6-8PM.
Saludos,
Ian Hodge Owner/Editor, ElSayulero.com

Saludos a los 5,155 lectores de El Sayulero.
"Puerto
Saludos,
Ian Hodge Dueno, SayulitaLife.com

Vicenta
Fensley Soule Sparling 1917-2010
Lee and Florencia Bridgeman brought Chuck and
Vicenta Sparling to Sayulita in 1972. They were so entranced with its beauty and the incredibly nice people
here that they returned in 1973, bought one of Lee's lots and had him build
them a home! As they brought down their kids over the years,
more land was purchased, more homes were built and Sayulita became a second
home for the entire family. We called
the property Cielo because, to us, it was "heaven", especially when compared to
Seattle's winter weather! Chuck and Vicenta always looked forward to seeing
their "Sayulita" friends, both foreign and local, walking the beach, cheering
on the base ball team and betting on sunsets at Costa Azul. Cocktails and stories about the day and days
past always at 5 pm sharp! Many local people worked for the family over the
years but my mom remembered Esther Salizar, Ramon Arce and their daughter
Judith with special fondness as they were working for the family when she made
her last visit in 2005. Chuck died in 1990 but Vicenta continued to come
to Sayulita for another fifteen years until ill health made the trip impossible.
She died this past week on April 10th, a few months short of
her 93rd birthday but we are sure she is still here somewhere as
Sayultia really is Heaven to her! She is
survived by her 4 kids, Galen Astle, Cap Sparling, Ann White and Presha
Sparling, 8 grandkids and 5 great-grand kids all of whom call Sayulita home (or
will)!

A few weeks ago, Grupo Pro Sayulita members shared their wishes - dream
projects that are shared by many residents of Sayulita. For example,
how about a complete re-do of the baseball field -- with new fencing
and seating that is more inviting, a new playground, new basketball
courts, a skate board park, a soccer practice area, new parking around
the exterior with a tourist information office to greet new arrivals?

We have two new additions to the family here in Sayulita. Twins, in
fact. I would love to show you a photo but their mother is very
protective, naturally so, and won't let me photograph them quite yet.

If you're actually in a hurry to reach your destination, don't stand
around too long in the same place in Sayulita; you're guaranteed to run
into someone you know. Even as a visitor, you're likely to see someone
with whom you spoke on the beach, at a restaurant the night before or
an internet cafe. More->

It is getting hot out and motivation to exercise is often inversely associated with hot temperatures. Our suggestions this week are all about Water. First of all, Drink it Up!
It is hard to over-hydrate. 8 glasses a
day is good, but as summer heat and humidity build up, you will sweat
more and you need to replace that fluid.Try to start and
end your day with a glass of water (maybe after you brush those pearly
whites). More->
En primer lugar, Drink It Up! Es difícil
sobre-hidratarse.

In surfing, when we refer to the line-up we refer to the area in the
ocean where surfers sit straddling their boards, looking out to sea,
waiting for the waves that inevitably come. More->

Sayulita is full of dogs. Big dogs, little dogs, tough dogs, beggar
dogs, sweet dogs--dogs that follow you home and break your heart. What
always surprises me though, is how many pampered dogs there are living
in Sayulita. See more photos. |
