Greetings 5,037 El Sayulero Readers,
Beaches are packed, smiles abound, and vendors from all over
are selling everything from popsicles to jamaica in every vacant space in town. Semana Santa is alive and thriving in
Sayulita. It seems to be a much younger
crowd this year with a more hip vibe than in previous years. Though the police presence seems to
have been stepped up as well, make sure to pay just a little more attention to
securing your home and valuables this week.
Please be patient with all the traffic/tourists in the
streets. If all of us just pick up
five pieces of garbage every day during this week and next, residents can help
set a great example for those visiting us for the holidays. Remember: do NOT set out trash for
collection from 9AM Saturday until 5AM Monday morning.
 Congratulations organizers! Sayulita's first Farmer's Market (pictured) opened this
morning with about 10 booths selling a variety of organic and natural
goods. Turnout was great and we
encourage all of the local residents to visit them next Friday as well in order
to assure the continuing success of this beautiful new Sayulita addition.
Pick of the week:
These two ladies do not have a menu, silverware or a website but you definitely
want to sample one of Joce's and Belinda's tortas ahogadas located across from
the plaza in front of the ice cream store. The bread is shipped in from Guadalajara. Offered only during Semana Santa.

Las playas
están llenas, las sonrisas abundan, y los vendedores de todas partes se
están vendiendo de todo, desde helados hasta Jamaica en cada espacio vacío
del pueblo. Semana Santa está viva y floreciente en Sayulita. Parece ser un grupo mucho más joven de este año con la vibra del bombo más que en años anteriores. A
pesar de la presencia de policia parece que se han intensificado, así,
asegúrese de poner sólo un poco más de atención a la seguridad de su
hogar y objetos de valor esta semana.
Por favor tenga paciencia con todo el tráfico / turistas en las calles. Si
todos nosotros sólo recogemos cinco piezas de basura todos los días
durante esta semana y la próxima, los residentes pueden ayudar a
establecer un gran ejemplo para aquellos que nos visitan para las

Farmer's Market Sayulita_Farmers_MarketSayulita (en la foto) abrió esta
mañana con unos 10 puestos de venta de una amplia gama de productos
orgánicos y naturales. La
participación fue excelente y animamos a todos los residentes locales a
visitarlos el próximo viernes y el fin de asegurar el éxito continuo de
esta nueva adición hermosa Sayulita.
Eleccion de la semana: Estas dos senoras no tienen menu, cubierto ni pagina web pero de seguro te encantara probar una torta ahogada de Belinda y Joce ubicada en frente la plaza fuera de la tienda de helados. El pan es importado de Guadalajara. Solo para Semana Santa.

I
wish to express my appreciation to all the people of Sayulita for their
warm welcome when my children & I visited during the recent
February break. It was the first time we had been to either Puerta
Vallarta or Sayulita & I must say that it was a wonderful
experience.
It is evident daily that there are most unfortunate occurrences happening in Mexico. However, we experienced nothing but
the finest hospitality from the people of Mexico from the time we
arrived at the airport until we left a week later. People of Mexico
are warm, helpful & friendly & we are happy to have made the
choice to travel there. Sayulita is an amazing place to visit. It
offers beautiful surroundings, happy, welcoming local residents & a
peacefulness that you can't find in so many other vacation spots.
We
had the pleasure to attend the wonderful carnival in Sayulita. It was marvelous & the atmosphere was one of relaxed fun for everyone.
We experienced the easy-going people & surroundings of a peaceful
village & enjoyed nothing but a feeling of relaxation & welcome
during our stay. There was never a moment when we felt unsafe day or
night.
My family & I went out every evening & felt completely
at ease everywhere we went. Thank you again to everyone we met for
your warm, welcoming hospitality. It is our pleasure to tell everyone
about the wonderful time we spend in your beautiful little village.
May it always be just as we remember it.

expresar mi agradecimiento a todo el pueblo de Sayulita por su cálida
bienvenida cuando mis hijos y yo visitamos durante la reciente ruptura
de febrero. Era la primera vez que había ido a cualquiera Puerta Vallarta o Sayulita y debo decir que fue una experiencia maravillosa. Es evidente que a diario se registran casos más desafortunados sucediendo en México. Sin
embargo, hemos experimentado nada más que la más típica hospitalidad
del pueblo de México, desde el momento en que llegó al aeropuerto hasta
que nos fuimos una semana después. La gente de México son cálidos, útil y amigable y estamos contentos de haber hecho la opción de viajar hasta allí. Sayulita es un lugar increíble para visitar. Ofrece
un entorno hermoso, alegre, acogedor y residentes locales una
tranquilidad que no se puede encontrar en lugares de vacaciones tantos
otros. Tuvimos el placer de asistir al Carnaval en Sayulita. Fue maravilloso y el ambiente era una diversión relajada para todos. Hemos
experimentado el pueblo tolerante y alrededores de un pueblo tranquilo
y disfrutar nada más que una sensación de relajación y satisfacción
durante nuestra estancia. Nunca hubo un momento en que nos sentimos inseguros día o de noche. Mi familia y yo fuimos a cabo todas las noches y se sentía completamente a gusto en todas partes fuimos. Gracias otra vez a todos los que conocimos por su hospitalidad cálida y acogedora. Es nuestro placer de decirle a todos sobre el tiempo maravilloso que pasamos en tu pueblo pequeño y precioso. Que sea siempre del mismo modo que lo recuerde.

Colorado Music Students Share their
Music with Sayulita

 On Tuesday night, March 23rd, six high school music students from
the Roaring Fork Valley, Colorado (near Aspen), flew into Puerto
Vallarta for their first visit ever to Mexico. Accompanying them were
two parents and music director/musician, Chris Bank. Their mission is
to play Latin music in a Latin Country. "Sort of a spring break with a
purpose" says Chris.

En la noche del Martes, 23 de marzo, 6 estudiantes de la escuela de
música del Valle Roaring Tenedor, Colorado (cerca de Aspen), voló a
Puerto Vallarta para su primera visita a México. Acompañaban los dos
padres y director musical y músico, Chris Banco. Su misión es tocar
música latina en un país latino. "Un tipo de vacaciones de primavera
con un propósito", dice Chris.

 Over this last week during Semana Santa, Sayulita has had it's share
of talent arrive to play a variety of live music in the streets, in the
plaza and on the beach. Aside from the talented Colorado students
coming to Sayulita, other bands with an
international flare have been playing their musical instruments around town. Sayulita has been filled with music everywhere! Everything from jazz, pianos, international music and of course
Mexican banda. More->
Durante esta última semana, Semana Santa, Sayulita ha recibido una
gran cantidad de talento para tocar todo tipo de música en vivo en las
calles, en la plaza y en la playa. Aparte de los talentosos estudiantes
de Colorado que llegaron a Sayulita a compartir su música, otras bandas
con estilo internacional han venido a tocar sus instrumentos musicales
por todo el pueblo. Sayulita se ha llenado de música donde quiera que
vaya esta semana. Todo, desde el jazz, piano, música internacional y,
por supuesto banda de México también.

 With Semana Santa in full effect, there is no shortage of family fun to
be had in Sayulita these days, from lounging on the beach with the
hundreds of other families, to our very own Lucha Libre on Friday
night, to general people-watching on our busy streets, and our first Farmers' Market
on Friday. As you're planning out your social calendar for the coming
week, be sure to save Thursday night for the "Fiesta del Mundo" - a
fundraising party for San Pancho's Escuela del Mundo, being held right here in Sayulita. The benefit will take place Thursday, April 8, from 6:00-11 :00 PM, at Medusa Garden Grill in front of the baseball field on Avenida del Palmar. More->

diversión familiar en Sayulita en estos días, de descansar en la playa
con los otras familias, a nuestra propia lucha libre en la noche del
viernes, al observacion de la gente en las calles, y nuestro primer mercado del pueblo.
Como está planeando su calendario social para la semana que entra,
asegúrese de guardar la noche del jueves para la "Fiesta del Mundo" -
una fiesta para recaudar fondos para la Escuela del Mundo en San Pancho. El beneficio se realizará el jueves, 8 de abril de 6:00-11: 00 h, aqua en Sayulita en el Restaurant Medusa, frente al campo de béisbol en la Avenida del Palmar.

 Last Friday was Lent and I forgot. I had an urge to eat birria
tacos from the stand next to the health center. I walked the 300 meters
from my house to the post only to discover it was closed. To my
disappointment I said, "Trini has tacos now" (it was 9 am), I walked to
Trini's taco stand only to discover it was closed too. Incredulous, I
asked why they were closed. It was not until I asked my sister Alma who
said "we're in Lent". We Catholics do not eat meat on Fridays during
Lent, or on Thursday and Good Friday, or on Holy Saturday. More->
No tengo ninguna genialidad esta semana. Simple gula. El viernes
pasado olvidé que era cuaresma y tenía unas ganas urgentes de comerme
unos ricos tacos de birria en el puesto que está junto al centro de
salud. Caminé los 300 metros de mi casa al puesto sólo para descubrir
que estaba cerrado. Con mi decepción me dije; "seguro Trini tiene tacos
ahorita" (eran las 9 de la mañana), caminé hacia con trini y a los
otros puestos de tacos sólo para descubrir que estaba cerrado.
Incrédula, me pregunté por qué estaban cerrados. No fue sino hasta que
le pregunté a mi hermana Alma que supe: estamos en cuaresma. Los
católicos no comemos carne los viernes de cuaresma, ni el jueves y
viernes santo, ni el sábado de gloria.

 Maybe you've already read too much about all the efforts to get some
sort of lifeguard and emergency response team on our beach, but when
this writer went out Monday afternoon of the first Semana Santa week to
see Dr. Moy and the volunteer lifeguard on the beach, Dr. Moy had just
been summoned by two-way radio from his base camp outside Punta
Sayulita's sales office to rush to the north end of the beach where
volunteer lifeguard Raul had just taken an overtired young adult man
out of the ocean and onto shore. All was fine, but perhaps there would
have been a different result without their efforts.

 "I think we just bought all of the pet food in Sayulita," I told my
husband as we compared our comparative "scores." Our Golden Retriever
Brandy was sick and our vet in the U.S. had recommended a specific
canned prescription food. We had found a few cans each at Sayulitanimals clinic, Dr. Marco Alvirez's veterinary practice and at Dr. Jose Gpe. Gomez Avelar's veterinary practice. We were pleased to have found the right food for our baby. More->

 When we first came to Sayulita just 10 years ago, there were hardly any
two-storey buildings in the village. The buildings around the plaza
were a mix of single-family homes and small businesses, catering mainly
to the local Mexican population. The tortilla factory. The wonderful
and totally illegal "gas station". The plaza and surrounding roads
were mostly dirt, and mostly Mexican. It was what Moon Publications
called "a quaint Mexican fishing and surfing village" but which they
now describe as "the formerly quaint Mexican fishing and surfing village". How sad. More->

 "Stand up straight!' As children, we were told to have good
posture. Yet we were seldom taught effective ways to accomplish this.
Most of us don't even know what "good posture" is. The
consequences can be seen all around us: backaches, headaches, stiff
necks, shoulders hunched forward, restricted breathing, and tightness

Guadalajara when I was six years old for my dad's job; his family is also there. My mom's family is in Morelia.

Morelia, Michoacan; Tengo un hermano, de veinty un años, y tambien
