Greetings 4,935 El Sayulero Readers,

Sayulita has surely seen its share of ups and downs over the last seven days.  We have lost a few community members but had a fantastic fundraiser for our village.  Hopefully the clouds have moved on for a while and we will see only sunny happy days in our immediate future.  El Sayulero extends a personal thank you to all those who volunteered, attended, and donated to the giant GPS fundraiser last Wednesday.  All of you help make this village a better place to live and vacation in. GRACIAS!

Today Show
I imagine we will have a few more visitors showing up this spring thanks to the Today Show mentioning Sayulita, Mexico as the number one place to take a family vacation.  The Today Show is the top watched morning show in America with 5.63 million viewers.  You can watch the clip here.

Saludos,

Michelle Tuerpe, A Sayulita Fallen Angel
By:  Bobbi Hogan

Michelle
I write this this with deep sadness and a heavy heart. Last week Sayulita lost a a loving, sweet and kind member of the community and her loss will be felt for years to come by all who knew and loved her. Michelle Tuerpe, 48 yrs. young, moved to Bucerias and then to Sayulita in 2001 from the Denver area, having grown up in Long Island, New York. She was owner/operator of a shoe store & boutique called "Libelula" which featured San Miguel Shoes, hand-made leather sandals and previously-owned designer clothing. Her store was always a place for social gatherings and thru-out the day many friends would stop by to visit with her. She was never without her adorable Chihuahua, Lilu who must miss her terribly. Lilu has moved back in with her parents and siblings and is being well taken care of and loved.

The "Pretend" Life

By: Andrea Villarrubia

The pretend life
I'm pretty aware of how awesome our life is here in Sayulita, but if ever I forget how good I really have it, my dear friend KT is quick to remind me. Her latest musing centered what she calls our "pretend life," because it seems that when we get an idea about something we want to do, we just go out and do it, regardless of the standard requisite training that might otherwise be involved in the "real world." Write a column for the local paper? Why not!? Design and build a house? Sure. Be a guest-teacher at the local school? I can do that! Actually, Gabbi is doing that one, which is what started this discussion, as he just kicked off his 3-week tenure as a substitute art teacher at Costa Verde International School. (Go Sr. Gabbi! You are my hero!

(¡Bravo Sr. Gabbi! ¡Eres mi héroe!)

Nina's Story

Nina
Today you may see Nina, the energetic husky cross, running down the beach full of life and playing happily with other dogs. It's hard to imagine that only three months ago Nina's life looked much different. After almost being shot for killing a chicken, and tied to a three foot chain in the pouring rain and sizzling sun Nina was in dire need of help. Her health severely deteriorated from malnourishment and severe mange, she spent her days and nights whimpering and crying in pain. Neighbour Christy Macaulay who had spent countless sleepless nights listening to Nina's cries sought the help of Sayulitanimals. More->
