Greetings 4,838 El Sayulero Readers,
I trust everyone has had their fill of carnival rides, parades
dancing horses, rock throws (for beer), banda music, rodeos, and concerts in
the ball field. Until next year,

you; sort of.
The rains are really behind us now and truly tropical bliss
awaits residents and visitors alike.
As the carnival slowly winds down, our village can take a breather for a
few weeks until Semana Santa arrives.

Estoy seguro de que todos ya ha aprovechado hasta hartarse de todas las maquinas de feria, desfiles, caballos bailando, tiros con piedras (para cerveza), musica banda, rodeos, y conciertos en el campo de beisbal. Hasta el proximo ano y adios a los dias de Sayulita! Los vamos a extranar; mas o menos.
Hemos dejado la lluvia para atras y mas adelante nos esperan dias tropicales y alegres para los residentes y los visitantes. Nuestro pueblo puede relajarse por un par de semanas mientras el movimiento del carnival empieza a reducir, por lo menos hasta que llegue Semana Santa. Disfrutalo mientras se puede.

San Pancho Music Festival, Feb 26-28By: Ian Hodge  The San Pancho Music Festival began 10 years ago in the backyard of
John and Patricia Alexander. A few musicians came together and started
playing some music on their back porch. Soon after word got around and
the next year a few more musicians showed up to play and it started
looking more and more like a music festival. Eventually the success of
the festival outgrew the intimate surroundings of the Alexander's
backyard and it was time for a change.

Preserve Sayulita Waste Treatment Plant.By: Ian Hodge Lazaro Cardenas Garcia, the manager of Sayulita's water treatment
plant has asked for all of our help in maintaining the Sayulita sewer
system. The system is run solely by the town of Sayulita and we need
your assistance to help inform residents and visitors of the damages
caused by placing items in your toilets. Lazaro listed the following
items that have recently been found in the system and caused backups

 This is one of those weeks that make me really appreciate the other 51
weeks of my year. Not to say that this one is bad, just busy and full
and demanding and challenging - surely all good things in the context
of work and the culmination of a complex project that's been in
planning for months. In my fleeting moments (and they are fleeting, so
I will make this brief) of self-reflection, I find myself thinking of
how weeks like this help to put life in perspective. Having to drive
back and forth to Punta de Mita everyday makes me so thankful that I
usually work within 5 minutes (or 5 steps) of my home. Leaving my son
with a Nanny all day makes me appreciate the trust we have in her and
the love she clearly has for him (and he for her) - and it makes me
thankful for the life we no longer lead, where he would have been in
daycare 10 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Es una de esas semanas en que me pongo a pensar cuando aprecio las
otras 51 semanas del ano. No digo que esta semana esta mal, solo
ocupada, llena y exigente.- todas las cosas buenas relacionadas con el
trabajo y la culminación de un proyecto planeado por meses. En mi
momentos efimeros de auto refleccion (y si son efimeros, asi que esto
sera rapidos) me encuentro pensando que semanas asi son las que ponen
mi vida en un perspectivo. Tener que manejar de ida y vuelta a Punta
Mita todos los dias me hace agradecer que normalmente mi trabajo se
encuentra de 5 minutos o 5 pasos de mi casa. Dejar mi hijo con la que
lo cuida todo el dia me hace apreciar laconfianza que la tenemos y
confiar en el amor que tiene por el y el por ella - y me hace agrader
la vida que ya no tenemos, donde tendriamos que dejarlo en un jardin de
ninos por 10 horas al dia y 5 dia a la semana.

Costa Verde International School Fundraiser a Success!By: Lindsay Walter
 The Costa Verde International School fundraiser that had been postponed
last week due to the rainy weather was held last night at Don Pedro's
palapa in the effort to raise money for the scholarship fund at Costa
Verde International School. The event was made possible by many local
businesses that supported the event and donated to the fundraiser.
There were also many donations made to the silent auction, the winners
of the silent auction were announced at the end of the night. There was
delicious food catered by local restaurants and businesses such as Don
Pedro's, Sayulita Café, Naef catering, Des artistes and later on in the
evening there were fish and pork tacos. More->
La recaudacion de fondos para Costa Verde International School se
llevo a cabo anoche en la palapa de Don Pedro's. La semana pasada
pospusieron el evento debido a la lluvia. El evento era para recaudar
dinero para becas en Costa Verde International School. El evento se
hizo posible por el apoyo y donaciones de muchos negocios locales.
También había muchas donaciones para la subasta silenciosa, los
ganadores de la subasta fueron anunciados al final del evento. Habia
comida deliciosa de varios restaurantes como Don Pedro's, Sayulita
Café, Naef catering, Des Artistes y mas noche servieron tacos de
pescado y de pastor.

 Have you noticed mosquito bites lately? Can we do anything to avoid
another season with so many cases of Dengue? In recent weeks I've been
asked a lot if Dengue is still at Sayulita and this question is very
hard to answer because not all cases are reported and not all the
patients go to the doctor. I can only say that in this moment it is safe to come to Sayulita. More->
Has tenido piquetes de mosquito ultimamente? Podemos hacer algo para evitar otra temporada con tantos casos de Dengue? En las ultimas semanas me han preguntado mucho si todavia hay
dengue en Sayulita, esta respuesta es muy dificil de contestar pues no
todos los casos son reportados ni todos los pacientes van al doctor. Lo que es verdad es que no he visto un paciente con Dengue en
las ultimas cuatro semanas, y aunque eso es muy alentador no deberia
hacernos cantar victoria, ya que esta fue por mucho la peor temporada
de Dengue que el pueblo pueda recordar.

One Man's Account of the Sayulita Rock Throw.
 We went to the big carnival last night at the baseball field. Looked
very much like a carnival mid-way of old. There were lots of so-called
skill booths. Several air rifle booths with a twist. During your
concentration to hit the targets, a large, laughing dummy spits a
stream of water from its mouth all over you-that's always good for a
few laughs. More->

Home & Away: The Sounds of Silence in Sayulita.
 "Mexico is a loud country." Oh, how I wish I could remember in which
guidebook I first read that. It's something I keep trying to impress
upon our guests, without actually scaring them away! Most of the noise
is fun, and short-lived. I consider it simply loud sounds, not noise.
Roosters, dogs, car radios, the gas trucks - the many, many gas trucks
- all contribute to the friendly cacophany that is Mexico. Church
bells on a Sunday (actually, pretty much any day, I'm finding);
fireworks, especially on a Saturday night, to celebrate a wedding or
perhaps a christening. We're fortunate, in our guesthouse, to overlook
the ballfield and the plaza in the distance, to bear witness to all
that goes on in our little pueblo. More->
"Mexico es un pueblo ruidoso." Ay, como quisiera poder recordar en cual guia lei eso por primera vez. Es algo que trato a recordarles a nuestros invitados, sin asustarlos. La mayoria del ruido es divirtido, y no dura mucho tiempo. Los considero sonidos fuertes y no ruidos. Los gallos, perros, radios de carros, las camionetas de gas - las muchas camionetas de gas - todos contribuyen al ruido que es Mexico. Las campanas de la iglesia todos los dias, cuetes, en especial los sabados por las noches para celebrar una boda o bautizo. Somo afortunados, dentro las casita para invitados, que da vista al campo de beisbol y la plaza en la distancia, para no ver todo lo que pasa en nuestro pueblo.

 It's margarita madness here in Sayulita. Small
ones, big ones, GIANT, ones. They are a sweet reward after a long surf
session, are perfect with a bowl of fresh guacamole and chips, and have
a funny way of making the day a little brighter (for lack of a better
adjective). "But", you say, "they're bad for you. You can't possibly
be promoting the drinking of margaritas!" Well, in a way, yes. We
know you are going to drink them, so let's minimize the damage, while
we search for the best margarita in Sayulita. More->
Es una locura Margarita aquí en Sayulita. Las pequeñas, grandes, GIGANTE, queridos. Se
trata de una dulce recompensa después de una sesión de surf de largo,
son perfectos con un plato de guacamole fresco y papas fritas, y tener
una manera divertida de hacer el día un poco más brillante (a falta de

 Whether it is in your vacation rental home, your winter house or your
full-time residence, Mexican kitchens all have their share of
challenges and obstacles. Even in the swankiest of Sayulita kitchens,
the power may go out, the (propane) gas will run out at some point and
there is likely to be at least something with which you are not
immediately comfortable. Maybe your challenge is the construction
project that is dragging on way longer than the contractor promised,
reducing you to a Coleman burner and maybe a slice of counter space.
Yes, you can make toast in the frying pan and biscuits stove-top! I
have a friend who even learned how to make Chiles Rellenos from scratch
in just such a "When do I get my kitchen back?" situation. OK, she's
also the same friend who convinced her husband to use a blow torch to
toast the coconut on top of a dessert when she realized that she didn't
have a broiler, so maybe she should be writing this story. More->
Ya sea en su casa de alquiler de vacaciones, su casa de invierno o de
su residencia de tiempo completo, las cocinas mexicanas tienen su parte
de desafíos y obstáculos. Incluso en las más elegantes de las cocinas
de Sayulita, el poder puede salir, el (propano) de gas se agotarán en
algún momento y es probable que al menos algo con lo que no
soninmediatamente cómodo. Tal vez su reto es el proyecto de
construcción que se está alargando más de forma que el contratista
prometió, la reducción a un quemador de Coleman y tal vez un trozo de
espacio libre. Sí, usted puede hacer tostadas en la sartén y galletas
anafe! Tengo un amigo que incluso aprendí a hacer Chiles Rellenos de
cero en uno de esos "¿Cuándo recibiré mi cocina de nuevo?" situación.
Bueno, ella es también el mismo amigo quien convenció a su marido para
utilizar un soplete para tostar el cocoen la parte superior de un
postre cuando se dio cuenta que ella no tenía una parrilla, por lo que
tal vez debería escribir esta historia.

 "It's better to save lives than rescue dead bodies." This is
written on the signs that are bolted to the lifeguard stands on the
beaches in Puerto Vallarta. Sayulita has tens if not hundreds of
thousands of swimmers each year. Is there a chance that someday we
might have lifeguards too?

Pet Of The Week
"Scruffy"
 Scruffy is home!
Many
of you might have seen Scruffy, a sweet, little dog roaming the beach
and street looking for food, but even more so, looking for a human to
be with. She stayed at the door steps of one house and hung out in the
garden of another, always with the hope of being taken in and cared for.
During
the spay/neuter clinic with Dr. Chris Holmes at the end of January
2010, she was spayed, and the volunteers working at the clinic named
her "Scruffy" for obvious reasons. Because SayulitAnimals is lacking
foster homes, Scruffy was released back to the street, but was kept
under supervision. Yesterday, through the Adoption Assistance Program,
Scruffy found what she was longing for: a loving home with a very kind
man.

Muchos
de ustedes habian visto Scruffy, una perrita pequena y dulce caminando
en la playa y las calles buscando comida pero mas bien buscando una
persona de compania. Se quedo en las escaleras de una casa o en el
jadin de otra, siempre en busqueda por algien quien la cuide.
Durante
la campania de esterilizacion con Dr. Chris Holmes al fin de enero
2010, ella fue esterilizada y las voluntarias trabajando en la clinica
la llamaron "Scruffy" por razones obvias. Por la carencia de hogares
temporales para animales, Scruffy tenia que regresar a una vida en la
calle pero fue supervisado por Sayulitanimals. Ayer, por el programa de
adopciones, Scruffy encontro lo que estaba buscando por tanto tiempo:
una casa segura con una persona amable.

First time in Sayulita? I first came to Sayulita with
my family in 1986, I was 8 years old. My parents were looking for a
property between Manzanillo and Mazatlan. We first went to San Pancho
then we arrived to Sayulita and my parents really loved it here so they
bought property here in Sayulita. At that time there were hardly any
two-story buildings and there were goats, pigs and horses in the

Primera vez en Sayulita? La primera vez
que llegue a Sayulita fue en 1986 cuando tenia 8 anos y me vine con mi
familia. Mis papas estaban buscando propiedad por la costa entre
Manzanillo y Mazatlan. Primero llegamos a San Pancho y luego a Sayulita
y a mis papas les encanto Sayulita asi que compraron propiedad aquí. En
aquel tiempo casi no habia edificios de dos pisos y habia muchos
cerdos, cabras y caballos en las calles.
