Greetings 4,760* El Sayulero Readers,
The sun is
shining down upon us today and it seems like a
week since it has warmed our backs and shoulders. This truly has been
a Mexican "winter" to remember. Our newsletter this week is packed
full
of local info including a last chance to buy a junior high school calendar and
the local
CVIS school fundraiser this coming Wednesday! Our "paper" is growing
by leaps and bounds. This may be the best issue ever. Thanks to all
our writers and our
readers!
 Recently, I had a conversation with representatives from
Orbitz online travel agency who asked SayulitaLife.com to submit travel articles
for placement review. I then
worked with El Sayulero writer, Julia Caranci, who created a great piece on an authentic
Mexican vacation in Sayulita.
Orbitz loved it and it is published on their website. Every little bit of marketing helps
keep all of our houses and businesses occupied here in Sayulita!
 Another great bit of online Sayulita promotion came via an
announcement of the TOP TEN best Tequila websites. Sayulita local, Gabbi Villarrubia, maintains Sayulita Tequila Journal coming in at #3 on this list. Felicidades Gabbi and salud to another great Sayulita
website.
*Yes, our number of subscribers dropped this week due to
some early Spring housecleaning.
For the first time since inception, we went in and deleted all of the
email addresses that were not actually receiving our newsletter. These included expired, bounced,
non-functioning, and unreachable accounts. I was surprised how many there were but rest assured, ALL
current email addresses in our database are actual true recipients of our
newsletter. Still, 4,760 readers
is quite a list for a small town/village newsletter.

nosotros hoy y se siente como ha pasado una semana desde que nos ha calentado
los hombros y espaldas. Esto de verdad ha sido un "invierno" Mexicano para
recordar. Nuestras noticias en esta semana esta llena de información local
incluyendo noticias sobre la ultima oportunidad para comprar un calendario de
la secundaria y la recaudación de fondos para la escuela local CVIS que se
llevara a cabo el próximo miércoles. Nuestro "periódico" esta creciendo rápido.

tuve una conversación con los representantes de Orbitz, una agencia de viajes
en Internet y me pidieron que hiciera artículos sobre Sayulita. Luego trabaje
en conjunto con Julia Caranci, una escritora para El Sayulero quien creo un artículo
sobre una vacación mexicana autentica en Sayulita. A Orbitz le encanto y lo
publico en su sitio web. Cada pieza de publicidad ayuda para mantener todas las
casas y negocios ocupados aquí en Sayulita.

mantiene el periódico Tequila de Sayulita, que llego al numero 3 en la lista

de suscritores ha reducido en esta semana debido a una limpieza profunda. Por
la primera vez desde nuestro inicio, borramos todas las cuentas de correo electrónico
que ya no reciben nuestras noticias. Estas cuentas incluyen las que ya no funcionan,
cuentas vencidas y cuentas que devuelven los correos. Me sorprendí cuantas había

CVIS Fundraiser this Wednesday

 When you think about the criteria that define a "family town,"
proximity to a good school ranks pretty high. Back in the day when we
were just dreaming of moving to Sayulita, education was still a big
unknown - but being carefree kid-free newlyweds, we figured we had some
time before it was a real issue. Lucky for us, a group of parents was
already hard at work establishing Costa Verde International School, Mexico's first sustainable,
accredited independent school, right here in Sayulita. Born of love,
sweat, and the grass-roots dream of local parents with
about-to-be-school-age children, Costa Verde embodies an inspired
approach to inclusive learning and is an inspiring example of what can
be accomplished by a group of people with a passion for education.

Cuando se piensa en los criterios que definen a un "pueblo
familiar," la proximidad a una buena escuela es muy importante. Hace
unos años, cuando solo estábamos soñando con vivir en Sayulita, las
opciones educativas eran desconocidas - pero como jóvenes sin hijos,
nos dimos cuenta que teníamos tiempo antes de que fuera un verdadero
problema. Por suerte para nosotros (y el resto de la comunidad), un
grupo de padres ya estaba trabajando duro para establecer el Colegio Costa Verde Internacional, la primera escuela sostenible
de México, aquí en Sayulita. Nacido del amor, trabajo y los sueños de
padres del pueblo, Costa Verde representa un planteamiento inspirado en
el aprendizaje inclusivo y es un ejemplo inspirador de lo que puede ser
realizado por un grupo de personas con pasión por el aprendizaje.

 On Saturday, February 6th, Sayulita welcomed the town's new priest,
Father Efren Martin Dominguez Carrillo, who was introduced to his
congregation at Mass on Saturday by Father Mario Gonzalez Diaz,
Sayulita's previous priest who has left Sayulita due to health issues.
Sayulita's church, decorated with flowers, was full of people during
Saturday's mass. After, there was food served by volunteers in the
plaza and a mariachi band played in the afternoon, all in welcoming the
new priest to Sayulita. More->

del pueblo, padre Efren Martin Dominguez Carrillo quien fue presentado
a su feligreses durante misa el sabado por el padre Mario Gonzalez
Diaz, el sacerdote anterior quien se ha ido de Sayulita por motivos de
salud. La iglesia de Sayulita decorada con flores se encontro llena de
gente durante la misa, después voluntarios estaban serviendo comida en
la plaza y una banda de mariachis tocaba musica en la tarde, todo esto
para la bienvenida del nuevo sacerdote de Sayulita. |
 This past Sunday February 7th
2010, the game between Sayulita Crabs (jaibos) and the powerful team of
Compostela corresponding to the Puerto Vallarta senior league 2009-2010
was played. The Crabs were leading the series 2-1 and by winning, they
will become the new champions.

Home & Away: Both Ends Burning!
 It seems I'm developing an unintended theme here. My life as defined
by song titles. I'm hoping for a reason to write an article called
"It's Raining Men" or perhaps "Must Be Talking To An Angel". A few
that won't be appearing anytime soon, though -- "Onward,
Christian Soldiers", "I Shot the Sheriff" and almost anything by Billie
Holiday. But I digress... The Husband has been detained in Montreal,
the recipient of his own version of a week from hell. This has left me
here in Sayulita alone for longer than I'm used to (it's almost a
week!) and certainly longer than I want (it's more than a day!). More->

 Alright. I finally did it. I went to the butcher. Call me a
hypocrite, squeamish, lazy, timid or whatever else might apply, this
was my very first trip inside a Sayulita butcher shop. In the nearly 5
years that we have been in Sayulita, I had never before purchased any
type of fresh meat here. Not that I'm a vegetarian, mind you. I adore
Antonia's pozole (with chicken,) a torta de pierna (pork) from Dona
Lety and the unfailingly good tacos of pork or beef from Tacos Cheos.
But, at home, by default, I'd only cooked vegetarian dishes. (One can
hardly go wrong with the myriad of fresh Sayulita produce!) More->
Muy bien. Finalmente lo hizo. Fui a la carnicería. Me
llaman un hipócrita, escrupuloso, perezoso, tímido o cualquier otra
cosa que puede aplicarse, este fue mi primer viaje dentro de una
carnicería de Sayulita. En los casi 5 años que hemos estado en Sayulita, yo nunca había comprado ningún tipo de carne fresca. No es que yo soy vegetariano, claro está. Me
encanta el pozole Antonia (con pollo) una torta de pierna (cerdo) de
doña Lety y los tacos indefectiblemente bien de carne de cerdo o carne
de vacuno de Tacos Cheos. Pero, en casa, por defecto, sólo había cocinado platos vegetarianos. (Uno no puede ir mal con la miríada de Sayulita productos frescos!)

ESL Program Rocks Their World.
 A generous dose of gratitude goes to Alaska Airlines for their
assistance in shipping 19 boxes of school supplies, all gratis...for
our ESL after-school program at the primary school here in Sayulita.
Our thanks also go to Val Belcher and Cap Sparling who orchestrated the
shipping details and much more. Another thanks to Sunrise Elementary in
Enumclaw, WA for donating 6 of those 19 boxes. We are making excellent
use of them and the kids are extremely grateful for everything they are
receiving.

"Sayulita Days" is such a cool time to be in Sayulita--the parade of
marching bands, the princes and princesses , all the horses &
cowboys in town. But I have to admit, what I like best is the night
time carnival. The games are crazy--throwing rocks at beer bottles--,
the lighting is lurid and everyone wears a cowboy hat. Here are some of
my favorite pictures from Sayulita Days past.

Pet Of The Week
"John Doe"
 Found
on a beach close to Sayulita, this elderly, male hound dog is
definitely out of place living homeless on the street. With his warm,
loving eyes he seems to be saying: "please give me shelter, a secure
place to sleep, food and water. I'm tired and too old to
fight for the things I deserve!"
He is very respectful and hopeful to
win your heart over.
En una
playa cerca de Sayulita, se encuentra este perrito de edad avanzada
definitivamente fuera de lugar, viviendo en las calles. Su amorosa y
calida mirada parece decir: por favor dame un hogar, un lugar seguro
para dormir, comida y agua. Estoy cansado y viejo para pelear por las
cosas que merezco! El es muy respetuoso y tiene la esperanza de ganar
tu corazon.

Primera vez en Sayulita? La primera vez que llegue
a Sayulita fue hace 1 ano, el 20 de octubre. Me acuerdo bien cuando
llegue y pensé que Sayulita tenia mucho que ofrecer. Estaba buscando un
cambio en mi vida y siempre me ha gustado el surf asi que fue por eso
que decidí venir a Sayultia.
