Greetings 5,476 El Sayulero Readers,

Big waves, municipal president appearance, and the cleaning of our cobblestone streets are what has caught my attention this week.  The evenings are definitely a bit colder so pack a sweatshirt on your way out to dinner.  The days are absolutely stellar however with tons of blue sky and sunshine.  In addition, the ocean temperatures are the warmest anyone can remember this time of year.

Problems viewing the new website?  It has come to my attention the new ElSayulero.com website is not displaying properly on all browsers/computers.  If you notice any formatting or design errors, please let me know.  I would really appreciate it.

Saludos,

Ian Hodge

Ian Hodge

Big Waves Create Havoc

Sayulita Waves
Where's the beach? Last weekend Sayulita's sandy shore was underwater after strong waves and a high tide surged in, causing problems for local businesses and boat owners. Fishers hired a backhoe to pull their boats off the beach and onto the road last Friday morning. Several people walking on the beach were nearly swept away. And get ready: a much larger swell is expected this weekend, which could pair up with a high tide early Sunday morning to swallow up the beach again, perhaps even more dramatically.

Sayulita Surfers Dominate Local Contest

ContestThis past Saturday, January 16th, started the first stage of the "State of Nayarit surf circuit". which will decide the new competitors who will represent Nayarit in the National Surf Contest this year. What a talent!! The best of the best (i just would have liked to see Kalle Carranza in competition, as well as Guille Cadena, in his best days, so I could have said, I have seen the best of all times!) The tournament took place on the left break, in front of the camping "El Camaron". More->

Mas->

Scorpions in Sayulita
(Don't panic)

The ScorpsBe careful! Have you checked your shoes, clothings, luggage or Sayulita closets lately? Scorpions simply love crawling in places like these. In Mexico there are about 160 different species of scorpions that live mainly in deserts, semi-desert and tropical areas. Most of them produce a sting that develop effects that are limited to local reactions, with some mild pain and numbness of extremities or even a mild fever and an allergic reaction. Sometimes a severe life-threatening toxicity might develop.  More->

Cuidado!

Andrea and MaxxiWith high season in full swing, I've been thinking a lot about work/life balance. Some things are constant, I suppose. Having left behind the workaday life of 6 day weeks, 14 hour days, and hour-long commutes, I never forget how good I have it working from home in sweet Sayulita, where the rest of the world comes to spend their 2 weeks of vacation a year. Sayulita Speed:  Almost an Oxymoron!

Running

While normal cardiovascular training is an essential element to complete and balanced physical conditioning, the calorie burning and physical benefits stop as soon as you're finished and the heart rate comes down. If you're looking to rev up your metabolism 24 hours a day, and break out of any plateau you might be in, then you have to try sprints.  More->

Mas->
A Sayulita Dish to Pass / Three-Bean Salad

Sayulita SaladOn one of our first-ever visits to Sayulita, our very kind hosts (and now good friends) invited us to join them at their friend's house for a large Thanksgiving gathering. An inquiry concerning the event's parameters brought the answer from our hosts: "Everyone brings something for the table." Alright, a dish to pass; how hard could that be? I had been to and have thrown any myriad of potlucks and dinner parties; several possibilities quickly came to mind. I soon settled on my three-bean salad (which relies on three types of canned beans,) thinking that it was quite easy to make and always popular. More->

Home & Away: Heat & Warmth

SnowToday in Montreal it's a high of -3C, which isn't bad at all for mid-January. They say it's like Spring. Here in Sayulita, of course, it's only 10:00a.m. and already it's 25C. Do I gloat?  Damn right I do. We worked very hard to make this dream a reality. A lot of people up north don't understand that. They call us "lucky". They seem to think that going from fantasy to reality is just a matter of wishing it to happen. Let there be light, and there was light. More->

More->
