APRIL 2011
 Greetings!

John Bacon, JD
PPGGNY President

Spring is finally here and very welcome after the long and cool winter this year. April means our luncheon speaker program will soon be coming to a close and we are fast approaching NYPPS.

Our April program will focus on interesting gift planning situations, including some that led to completed gifts and some that fizzled.  Come learn from our experienced panelists and share your own "war stories." We are also thrilled to honor Past President Wayne Mones, upon his retirement, by presenting him with our "Cloughie" award for outstanding service to PPGGNY and the gift planning profession.  Come hear about Wayne's many accomplishments - and a few of his own stories about his years in gift planning at the National Audubon Society and elsewhere.

NYPPS registration is up and running, so sign up for the May 26 event if you have not done so already and encourage others to join us for what will be a fantastic day. Thanks to board member Hugh Williams who secured Beth Shapiro Kaufman, our plenary speaker, who will present an insider's view of estate and gift tax policy - do not miss it!

April also means taxes for many people and we are getting the usual requests for duplicate copies of Forms 1099-R from our annuitants, as well as feelers from donors who fund new annuity gifts after filing their returns (and in some cases, using tax refunds as funding assets).

(Don't miss John's entire letter with his thoughts on spring cleaning of open estates.)

We serve you, our members and friends, so please keep your comments, suggestions, and inquiries coming to me at jbacon@nypl.org or the PPGGNY office. I look forward to seeing you soon.

John

FEATURE ARTICLE
"It's For the Birds"

Wayne MonesThis month we celebrate a career that's really "for the birds." We honor a long-term PPGGNY member and friend, Wayne Mones, who will retire from The National Audubon Society after 27 years of service on April 30.

As you can see from the photo, Wayne is an active "birder."
But there's more to know about Wayne
