Greetings!
Happy
New Year! The challenges and successes
of 2009 are behind us, and PPGGNY is ready for a busy and productive 2010. While we all await news on how (if at all)
Congress acts to resolve the federal transfer tax situation, PPGGNY will offer
a wealth of programs this winter and spring to keep you up to date and
engaged. Here is what is on tap:
- February 17- Randy
Beranek's primer on charitable gift annuities will be followed by a
luncheon panel on best practices and common issues with this popular gift. Anyone who offers gift annuities or is
considering doing so will benefit from this double program.
- March 24 - Davida Isaacson will lead a morning workshop on how gift planning relates
to overall development efforts followed by Martha May Damen on women and
wealth.
- April 21 - Fred Hartwick will present a seminar on the life of a stock (who hasn't
had an issue with closely-held or other non-traditional stock gifts?)
followed by Margaret Holman on the fusion/confusion of major and planned
gifts (again, something all of us know about or will sooner or
later!).
To
cap the season, our one-day conference, the newly re-named New York
Philanthropic Planning Symposium or NYPPS, will be held on May 26 at the
Marriott Marquis. Robert Sharpe will be
the keynote speaker and we are lining up many other speakers on a wide array of
topics.
The Planner, PPGGNY's electronic
newsletter, has returned. The Planner will have complete program
updates as well as links to useful information on this website and elsewhere on
the Internet. It will also feature
member news, job announcements, and links to information on our generous
sponsors.
Just
getting around to joining us now or entering the gift planning field this
winter? If so, note that our discounted
half-year memberships are available and may save you up to $95 on the programs
mentioned above.
As
always, my fellow directors and I welcome your feedback and comments: contact me or the
PPGGNY office or seek us
out at an upcoming program. We look
forward to hearing from you and to seeing you.
Best
regards,

John M. Bacon, J.D.
PPGGNY President

Just In!
The House has unanimously approved a bill to allow taxpayers who make charitable contributions to victims of the earthquake in Haiti to claim an itemized charitable deduction on their 2009 tax return instead of having to wait until next year to claim these deductions on their 2010 tax return.
