2010 Colorado State Tryouts
April 24h-25th at RMR (Lakewood,CO) REGISTER NOW!!!
|

Colorado is home to some of the best players in the North America. Whether your watching Craig Anderson make another sparkling save for the beloved Avs or watching local legend CJ Yoder make a defender look silly, there is plenty of great hockey action in this great state. While our staff was at Winter Wars West in Lakewood, CO, we were lucky to find some free time to get over to Copper Mountain and experience Colorado's beauty. Our ski trip was definitely a lot of fun and us rookies learned a great lesson as well, make sure you apply sun block even when out on the snow!
With so many great coaches, players and hockey enthusiasts it is no wonder Colorado is such a great hockey state. Some of the top hockey facilities in the state like RMR, Tour Arena, Bladium, Parker, US Wheels, and Soc n Roll are doing great jobs to grow the sport in their own way. We obviously need the rinks to thrive and be successful in order to see our sport do the same at the National level, so make sure you support your local leagues and programs!
Hopefully we will see more players at tryouts this year. You can register now online. See you at the rink!

1996 AAA Division |
This was the first time we were ever able to create a 1996 AAA only division and included the best talent you could find in the '96 birth year...period! Colorado finished their round robin with a 1-3 record which included a 4-0 win over Illinois. Their loses came against three powerful teams from Missouri, California, and British Columbia. 1995 "A" Division |
When you finish .500 with a 2-2 record after round robin you really can't get too upset. Colorado 95 "A" came out with four points and had wins over Virginia and California. Loses came against Tennessee and Michigan in two great games that could have went either way. Tyler Hanson finished round robin with four goals and four assists for eight points and teammate Hayden Rathmell finished with six goals and one assist for seven points. Colorado would go to the quarter finals where they would see North Carolina who also finished with a 2-2 record. Justin Wherry and Shane Jenkins would take control in the second period and help get Colorado a 2-1 lead and a trip to the semi finals against Michigan. As we know Michigan would be a heavy favorite going into the semi finals and Colorado would have to play next to perfect to go onto the finals. Both teams would play strong defense and get chances to score but Michigan would strike to put them up 1-0 going into the second period. Jacob Rivera would make some brilliant saves but Colorado just couldn't find the back of the net for him. Then at around the nine minute mark, Michigan would then take a 2-0 lead to help them move on to the finals. Colorado would head to the bronze medal game where they would face Tennessee who stunned them earlier in round robin.Colorado and Tennessee would find themselves tied going into the second period with three goals apiece and Justin Wherry, Hayden Rathmell, and Cody Pacheco would do the scoring for Colorado. Colorado's Ryan Martinez would snipe a goal just 12 seconds into the second period but Tennessee would come firing back with two goals themselves. With just about a minute and a half left in regulation, Justin Wherry would find his second goal of the contest and help send this game into overtime. Overtime wouldn't last too long for both teams because Colorado's Hayden Rathmell would find a hole and beat Noah Sinz to give Colorado the 1995 "A" bronze medal. Colorado would strike first to put them up 1-0 with a goal by Tyler Hanson. However, New Jersey would come back just around a minute later with a goal by Joshua Feehan to even things up at 1-1. Both teams would have opportunities to put pucks away but both goaltenders would play stellar and shut the door.At the 4:24 mark in the second period, New Jersey's Joshua Feehan would find the back of the net from a pass by Brandon Seelig. "Jersey" would find another goal shortly after to give them a 3-1 lead and great chances to moving on to the next round. Colorado would not move on to the semi finals but they played an extraordinary tournament.Shaun Linger would not only win the "Warrior High Scorer Award" but be named to the Great Skate All Star Game along with teammate Tyler Hanson. |
1993 AAA/AA Division |
The 1993 AAA/AA was an incredible division that was probably one of the most competitive and evenly matched divisions that I have ever seen. In this division there was a total for ten ties and every team had least one tie to put on their resume. Colorado's one more goal for gave them the number one seed over Ohio. Eric Dering and Kyle Phelps both lead Colorado with eight points and Dering also added three power goals and a shorthanded goal to his stats. The 1993's would face Illinois in the first round where they wouldn't find a walk in the park. Illinois and Colorado would both end the first period scoreless and Illinois would find a power play goal just 25 seconds into the second period. Colorado wouldn't lay back though and they would find two late second period goals to secure them a win and chance for the State Wars Cup.In the finals against Ohio, Colorado would end up on an uphill fight to the end. Just under four minutes, Ohio's JC Campagna would score three goals to give Ohio a 3-0 lead. Colorado's Christian Williams would score to help his team come within two but Ohio would just be too strong for them. JC Campagna added another goal to give Ohio a 4-2 lead which ended up being the final score.Jonathan Joy would end the game with 14 saves but in the end that would not be enough for Colorado.Cesar Soto, Jonathan Joy, and Kyle Phelps all made Team North America and played in the Great Skate All Star Game.

Ryan Schueller led his team with two goals and five assists for seven points and Ethan Hufnagel completed his round robin with six points.Colorado would face the #2 seed Ohio in the quarter finals who they lost to previously in round robin by a 5-4 score. Schueller and his team would find revenge on Ohio in a 5-4 win and eliminate Ohio out of the tournament. With that victory, Colorado would move on to play Florida in the semi finals.Florida would go on the board early and take a commanding 4-0 lead over Colorado. Jacob Nellans would find a loose puck and bury a puck for Colorado but Florida would just be too powerful for them. Florida would go on to win 8-3 and a chance at the gold medal. With that loss, Colorado would be sent to the bronze medal game where they would face Tennessee to see who would take home some hardware. Schueller would put home an early goal to give Colorado an early lead but Tennessee would answer back with a goal from Andrew Ball. Bryce McDougall would pick up a short handed puck and bury what would be the game winning goal for Colorado. Colorado would take home the bronze medal and Ethan Hufnagel and Ryan Schueller would take home All Star honors.
Thomas Casias would also take home the Great Skate Top Goalie award!

Colorado would finish undefeated with a 3-0-1 record and the #2 seed where they would would get a bye to the quarter finals. Chase Deutschman would lead the way with ten points but teammate Jordan Andrus would not finish too far behind with nine points. In the quarter finals, Colorado would take out Florida in a 4-0 game. Hayden Aubermann would score the first of Colorado's six goals and Ryan Coleman and Chase Deutschman would also add two goals to help secure a victory on their road to the finals. The finals would finally come and Colorado would take on a strong team from Michigan. Michigan has always been known for their talent but Colorado was not going to just back down against them. Just over a minute into the game, Michigan would get on the board early. Two more goals would soon follow which would give Michigan a three goal lead. Devin Dreiling would get everything started for Colorado to add a goal to the board and make the game 3-1. Shortly after Dreiling's goal, Hayden Aubermann would light the lamp with a rocket passed Michigan's goaltender. Michigan would answer back but Colorado would storm back with two goals to tie the game up at four. Lucas Flores and Jordan Andrus would finish the goals for Colorado and get momentum flowing through their bench. Michigan would move to the power play and Joey Axt would score the game winning goal with 39 seconds left on the clock. Colorado would fall to Michigan in a 5-4 game but they would have four players represent them in the Great Skate All Star Game.
Hayden Aubermann, Chase Deutschman, Jordan Andrus, and goaltender Benjamin Nierengarten all represented Colorado in the All Star Game.
Benjamin Nierengarten would also take home the Valken Most Valuable Goalie award. |
1991 AAA/AA Division |
Colorado's 1-2-1 record really didn't show everyone how good they actually were. Colorado's only win came against the #1 seed Ohio in a 1-0 game. Alberta would move on the finals and Colorado would end up playing Ontario in the bronze medal game.Colorado would fall to the gritty team from Ontario in a 5-4 game. This was another game that Colorado would fall behind in early but that didn't stop them from fighting back. With three minutes left, Michael Friel would tie the game up at 4-4 but, Ontario would answer back just twenty seconds later and hold on to the 5-4 lead and take home the bronze medal.Wesley Schaeffer would be one out of twelve players chosen for the the Pride and Honor scholarship award which also included Team North America and the Great Skate All Star Game.
Michael Friel would also join Schaeffer in the Great Skate All Star Game. |
1991 "A" Division |
Roller Hockey is a sport that is all about momentum and consistency. Colorado 1991 "A" couldn't really get a flow going during round robin. Right out of the gate Colorado would tie Virginia 4-4 in a great game. Goals were scored by, Josh Perez (2), Garrett Skelton (1), and Robert Miller-Starks (1). Colorado would also fall to Michigan and Manitoba and tie Missouri. Robert Miller-Starks would lead Colorado in points with 3 goals and three assists for six points.
Colorado would go to the playoff round and play Manitoba who beat them earlier in round robin by the score of 7-2. The five goal differential would turn out a lot differently in this game though. Miller-Starks would start the first period scoring off with an unassisted goal to put Colorado up 1-0. Manitoba would answer back with three goals (two by Corey Hampson). However, Colorado would storm back with two goals to tie the game up at 4-4 and later end up sending the game into overtime. Halfway through overtime Manitoba would finish a goal on a great play to send Colorado home without any hardware, but a lot of pride after such a great showing this time around.
Robert Miller-Starks, Garrett Skelton, and Josh Perez would all get chosen for the Great Skate All Star Game.
