During the Night in White event (see above) we will be kicking off a week long trunk show from jewelry designer, Laura Kegg.
I met Laura during my years at University of Cincinnati.
She is a Cincinnati native and a Bearcat through and through, having received both her undergraduate and law degrees at UC. Though she loves her current life in Maplewood, New Jersey with her fiancé, Bill and enjoyed her time living in New York and Los Angeles, Laura's family and closest friends remain in the Queen City. She still thinks of Cincinnati as "home" and LaRosa's, Skyline and Graeters as her favorite destinations.
Laura spends her days working as a structured finance attorney in Manhattan, but started her education as an art student, and over the years has explored numerous ways to continue to express her artistic side.
Always having had a weakness for fine jewelry, Laura decided to take some jewelry-making classes. Laura found herself drawn in particularly to the art of wire-wrapping; feeling that the links and chain separating the beads in a wire-wrapped necklace add elegance and highlight the beauty of the individual stones. She started investing in and experimenting with a wide-ranging collection of gemstone beads and, designing under the name "Laura K", discovered that making jewelry is the perfect way to couple her appreciation for color, unique stones and quality workmanship with the joy she gets out of coming up with special, one-of-a-kind creations.
Each item of Laura K jewelry represents hours of working and re-working various combinations of tourmalines, aquamarines, citrines, pearls, beryl and other high quality stones of assorted shapes, sizes and hues. She meticulously wraps each individual link of 14 karat gold into a necklace, bracelet or pair of earrings resulting in a jewel that catches the eye from every angle. Laura hopes that you enjoy her pieces as much as she enjoys making them.
