Change?  What Change?!
From the November 2011 Broadcasting the Buzz - From the International Communications Committee

beeChapters are BUZZING about the new contemporary initiation ceremony recently released by the International Membership Committee. Change does not usually find people singing its praises, BUT WOW! Members are emailing their accolades of approval on a daily basis.

The traditional initiation ceremony used over the years has emphasized the Founders, symbols, key pin and other protocols that bind DKG members together with a common purpose and is still a very impressive and appropriate ceremony. Now that our Society is well established, we can focus less on the past and more on bringing together qualified and diverse women educators. The contemporary initiation focuses more on the needs of educators serving in a broad spectrum of educational fields, emphasizing the pursuit of worthwhile projects that make a difference in communities around the world.

Your chapter may continue to use the traditional initiation ceremony, but the committee hopes you will check out the new contemporary initiation ceremony which is available at www.dkg.org, under Membership Committee, see Resources section.

Alpha Zeta State Strategic Action Plan
checklist
The first meeting of the Alpha Zeta State Strategic Planning Ad Hoc Committee met on November 19, 2011, in Bordentown. The ad hoc committee was created by State President Roxanne Adinolfi in response to a request from international to develop a Strategic Action Plan for AZS. The committee is composed of a past chapter president and retired teacher, Kathleen Coe; immediate past state president, teacher, and AZS representative for SAP- DKG, Claire Swanson; past state president, state expansion chair and university professor, Dr. Mary Lee Batesko; teacher, state initiation chair, and member of one of the largest chapters in AZS, Amy Weinstein; current chapter president and teacher, Pam Watkinson; 2nd Vice President, state membership chair and retired teacher, Mary Conover; and AZS president, university supervisor, and educational consultant, Roxanne Adinolfi, ex-officio.

The committee members viewed the strategic action plan process through varied lenses based on diversity and experience. They also reviewed multiple Strategic Action Plans from other states, cross-referencing and comparing the plans to find exemplars, including that of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Alpha Zeta State's committee agreed to focus on five major areas important to the sustainability and viability of New Jersey's chapters: membership, finance, society impact on education, communication/technology, and leadership development. These five core areas may be expanded by additional concerns identified by the state's membership in a survey to be shared in January, 2012.

The survey is being implemented to provide the data necessary for the committee to advance its charge: to draft a strategic action plan for Alpha Zeta State. Following compilation and review of the information from the member survey, state members in the determined focus areas, with the direction and assistance of the SAP committee, will be asked to create objectives, timelines, and responsible parties for meeting goals and objectives to move Alpha Zeta State forward.

"Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now."
