Here we go again! We are in the middle of that exciting time of year in which we celebrate our heritage and the commodities that put Tangipahoa Parish on the map. Any given weekend offers a chance to skip out on household duties in order to support our wonderful community while having a great time with friends and family. Our festival line-up this year offers a bountiful harvest of oysters, strawberries, and even cabbage, potatoes, and carrots. Whether you choose to "dress up" for one of the upcoming festival balls or "dress down" to sample the rides and scrumptious foods at a local festival, you're sure to pass a good time. As we say here in Louisiana - Laissez les bon temps rouler!
Sincerely, Betty C. Stewart Executive Director

What's been happening?
Congratulations to all Tangipahoa Parish fairs and festivals for their outstanding showing during the 2012 Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals Annual Convention. Tangi took home a number of top prizes including: New Event of the Year - Independence Sicilian Heritage Festival; Fair of the Year - Tangipahoa Parish Fair; Best Program Book - Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival; Volunteer of the Year - Tommy Cooper; and Miss Congeniality - Amy Ferrara!
Area festivals flourished in the Poster and Essay contests as well. Laura Capadona, representing the Strawberry Fest won 2nd place in both the essay and poster contests. Victoria Ricaud celebrated her 1st place title in the Essay contest. Corrin LeBlanc and Kailey Aveton each placed 3rd in their respective divisions in the poster contest. Lauren Rhoner finished 1st place with her poster. A huge congrats to Jillian Wild for receiving the Overall award for her poster as a representative of the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival. Lastly, Jeff Wright was named Vice President for the LAFF Association. Kudos to all of our festivals and thank you for representing Tangipahoa Parish so well!

All Hail the King and Pearl!
Congratulations to over very own Parish President, Gordon Burgess, and his beautiful bride, Margaret, for being named the 2012-2013 Amite Oyster Festival King and Pearl!
According to a news release by Tangilena.com, "the board chooses a couple each year based on their commitment and involvement to our community. This couple must possess the qualities that will best represent not only the Amite Oyster Festival, but also the entire community. The board believed that Mr. and Mrs. Burgess exemplify those qualities." To read the full article click here.
