Undergraduate Transfer Credit
Pre-approval

All undergraduate students who wish to take transfer courses outside of St. Thomas must receive prior approval from the respective academic departments for courses they hope to apply to major and minor field requirements (including allied requirements) and to core requirements. Business majors must receive approval for courses they hope to apply to business major or minor field requirements through their business advisor. In all cases, students should obtain such approval before they register for a course they hope to transfer.

Students do not need prior approval if they wish to receive elective credit for a course, but they should consult the Office of Academic Counseling to make sure the course is transferable.  Students must earn a grade of C- or higher for a transfer course to be accepted at St. Thomas.

In addition to the requirement for pre-approval, all undergraduate students are bound by the senior residency requirement, which states that a minimum of 32 of their final 36 credits at the time of graduation must have been completed at UST. In other words, during the time period when students are completing their final 36 credits, no more than 4 of those credits can be earned through transfer courses.

Students who have questions about these procedures should consult with the Academic Counseling office.

Click here to find the transfer credit pre-approval form.
