University of St. Thomas
Fall 2011 Grade Report

Colleagues:

As promised, IE has updated the missing grade summary report and posted to Sharepoint. I appreciate the feedback I have received concerning this report and you will notice we have added an additional summary to page one based on this feedback. Again, we will update the report tomorrow morning so that you can check on the progress of your areas. In addition, we have sent a faculty specific list to all instructors who have at least one missing grade with an extended deadline of January 4th at 11:59 p.m.

I want to offer a sincere thank you as you assist your faculty in completing this very important task. I also want to point out there are certain areas of the institution that have larger numbers of missing grades than others. This could be due to a number of reasons. For example, all exchange courses have yet to go through the process of assigning grades so we understand why these are blank. There are other exceptions as well based on past practices that are beyond the scope of this message. My point being.......this is not a punitive report. This report is a collaborative effort so that IE may better understand the grading process at UST and work toward a model that will create a high level of efficiency and understanding across the institution.

At this point, we have approximately 4,900 grades (14%) that have yet to be entered. My hope is that many of these will be completed today or tomorrow. Regardless, we intend to begin end of term processing on January 5th so that academic departments and programs may begin to identify pre-requisite problems, assign and manage probation and dismissal students, award honors, manage waitlists, etc.
