Greetings!

Wow.  The mail brought a wonderful surprise recently.  Kansas Magazine recognized our Diamond W Wranglers at the top of the list of "20 Things We Love About Kansas".  We appreciate that so much. The magazine will be on the newsstands for a couple of months, and we hope you'll buy one.  Check out the article below to see how you can win a free CD if you share why YOU love the Diamond W!

Chip Worthington, the newest member of the Diamond W Wranglers, has been winning hearts wherever they perform.  But who is this mysterious young man?  Check out "A Chat with Chip" below.

The Diamond W has been hitting the road in September, with a tour in Colorado, and stops around Kansas. We especially want to thank John and Virginia Ast of Ouray, Colorado for spending weeks of their lives organizing the Wranglers' successful tour to Ouray and Montrose last week.  It was quite wonderful, and there are no words enough to thank them for their passion and dedication to our music.

Virginia urged Colorado audiences to "Come Along for the Ride!"  and they sure did.  Hope to see you soon too!

Happy Trails,

The Diamond W Family

The Diamond W Wranglers hear it almost every night. "You guys are better every time we see you!" And a big reason why is Chip Worthington. Since Chip joined the group as a bass player in Feb 2009, the intricate harmony singing the Diamond W Wranglers are known for has become even more powerful.

Chip's strong Irish tenor voice, combined with the training he received as a music major and Madrigal performer at Wichita State, have allowed the Wranglers to arrange their songs in a very dynamic way. "I love acoustic music," he says. "It has such a richness. There's something so satisfying about singing harmonies, and so rewarding about the practices we have when we really tackle the music and break through the walls. 'That's the arrangement, that's the chord.' It's a creative process. Difficult, but rewarding. And I think the reason we're successful is that we spend time on those things."

Although Chip is roughly half the age of the others in the band, he says he doesn't feel it very often. "When we're out there performing, we're a unit. We relate on a musical level." Chip had played in a bluegrass band before joining the Diamond W, but learning the approach and history of Western Music has been a whole new experience, especially since he was joining a gifted musical team that had spent so much time working their music out over the years. "I feel some pride," he confesses. "I think I've helped them re-discover the music -- because they had to teach ME."

Chip endeared himself to Diamond W fans when he and his sweetheart Rachel actually got married on the last

Cowboy Cruise to the Caribbean in 2010.

And the reason why people are commenting that the Diamond W is better all the time? Chip says that they're always stretching their abilities, "and there's a consciousness that only grows over time. We bring a sincere desire to do what we do well. People can see that we put a lot of work on what we do."

Chip's extraordinary solo voice is highlighted on two John Denver songs on the their latest CD, "Old Friends". "Annie's Song" regularly brings tears to the eyes of people in the audience. And you can enjoy "Rocky Mountain High" right now:  it's playing on the Diamond W website this month.
