Introducing:
Lynn "Jay" Templeton
Dear Friends of the Boys & Girls Club...
It is with great enthusiasm that the entire Board of Directors and I announce our selection of LJ "Jay" Templeton as the Clubs' new Executive Director, effective August 1. After an extensive national search, Jay was chosen by the Board of Directors for his proven Boys & Girls Club leadership success, his passion for our mission and for his vision to lead the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Helena and Calistoga to the next stage of positively impacting the youth of our communities.
Jay, a native of Washington State, earned a BA in History from the University of Washington, and brings over 42 years of Boys & Girls Club leadership. After twelve years, Jay is leaving his Executive Director position at the Boys & Girls Club of Whatcom County. Prior to that, Jay served as Development Director, Operations Director, Assistant Executive Director and Interim President for the Clubs in Tacoma (BGC's of South Puget Sound) and in Seattle (BGC's of King County). His Boys & Girls Club career started as a Program Coordinator (five years) and 19 years as a Branch Director. He has orchestrated several capital campaigns and built several club houses and will be essential to helping us achieve one of our key future goals of building a new clubhouse in Calistoga!
The Board feels very fortunate to welcome Jay as our new Executive Director. We know he is committed to helping us serve more children. Please feel free to contact Jay at 707-963-8944 or LJY@bgcshc.org. If you don't contact him first, don't be surprised when he contacts you! He is looking forward to meeting you and having the opportunity to become an integral part of the upper Napa Valley community.
BUT...while we are excited to have a person of Jay's caliber join us, we are sad to lose Frank even though it's to a well-deserved retirement. For 15 years, Frank worked tirelessly for our communities and served our children in a first-class program he developed. He leaves behind a great legacy. We hope you will join us in sending Frank off in one of a couple farewell parties we will have. One will be a cake and ice cream social at each of the Clubs before he leaves and one will be a more adult event in the fall. We'll make sure you get the details so you and the kids can join us. If you see Frank in the meantime, however, please be sure to let him know he will be missed!

Calistoga Club News The Calistoga Club took it's show on the road to join in the marching madness at Calistoga's downtown, hometown 4th of July Parade. Fifteen Club Members, six staff and canine mascott Zoey strutted their stuff in a full parade circuit that began at Berry Street went up Lincoln Avenue, to the cheers and applause of the viewing public, down Fairway and finished at the Fairgrounds. Club Members and staff entertained the crowds by singing many of the Club's favorite songs as they marched the route. Club Members viewing from the sidelines loved showing off their membership in their Club as they sang right along with their parading companions. Festivities became particularly fun when a giant inflatable soccer ball got away from it's "handler" and rolled up to a rather tall, good humored spectator who shooed it back to it's place in the parade. The parade ended at the Fairgrounds where Club Members were greeted by family, friends and well wishers and headed off to their own 4th of July festivities. Later in the day the Club found out that it won Third Place in the Miscellaneous category of the Silverado Fourth of July Parade. Club Members and staff were so excited at the news they are making BIG plans for next years Boys & Girls Club of Calistoga parade entry. I can't tell you what they're planning but if I were you I'd make sure to show up at the parade July 4th, 2013 and see what they do next! Congratulations Sharolyn Townsend, Art Director of BGC in Calistoga for 1st and 2nd Place Ribbons for your amazing art exhibited at the Napa County Fair. You represent what skilled, dedicated and talented staff our Clubs are so very lucky to have. |

St. Helena Club News Summer session is in high gear at the Club in St. Helena. Daily attendance for Summer Session 2012 is up from last year's count of 120 to 150 this year and we know why! What an awesome place to spend a summer, friends, fun and a caring and exciting environment add up to a summer to remember.
Trips to Waterworld, A's Baseball, Six Flags, weekly outings to the community pool and regular visits to the Cameo Theatre and the ever popular Big Dipper are just some of the great outings being offered at the Club.
Summer activities at the Club itself include a great assortment of enrichment classes, Cooking, Magic Club and Story Time. If you want to learn how to walk like a Ninja we have a class for that too. For those who enjoy their summer on the move the Club offers a wide range of games and recreational opportunities.
Members who prefer something more meditative, the Art Room under the direction of Kari Martin is a wonder to behold. Kari has every Club Member in her Art Classes every day. Kari is a magician in creating engaging, fun and appropriately challenging and successful projects for the many different age groups that come through her Art Room doors each and every day. Felting, sewing, friendship bracelets, pet rocks, boats to float and paint and paper craft fill the space creating a wonderful atmosphere of energy, color and beauty. Watching the expressions of Members working on their latest creations is a delight to behold.
