The Boys & Girls Club Scores A Homerun!
Giants

Nine Deserving Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Helena and Calistoga received a memory of a lifetime at The San Francisco Giants home game on Sunday June 12th. The nine Club Members, in a pre-game ceremony, went out onto the ball field, a child at each of the nine positions. The Giants were introduced and took the field, each player standing next to one of the Club Members. These very lucky Club Members received a t-shirt, cap,an autographed ball from the player they were standing next to. With their treasure in hand they were escorted back off the field and over to their seats just in time to hear the cry of PLAY BALL!  In addition to the nine Club Members who took the field, twenty-one free tickets to the game were given to Club Members and their families. Thank You to Bank of America and the San Francisco Giants for sponsoring this very special and memorable event. What an awesome start to the summer!

Auction Napa Valley

St. Helena Club Members Support Auction Napa Valley 2011. The biggest combination wine and charitable event in the world concluded with their renowned live auction on Saturday, June 4th. Twenty five Club Members and staff took the stage at Meadowood Country Club to boisterously cheer on those auction attendees who contributed to the Fund a Need Auction Lot. The Auctioneer gathered individual pledges of five, ten, twenty-five, fifty and one-hundred thousand dollars to support Youth Programs in the Napa Valley. As the bids increased in size the Members enthusiasm and encouragement matched and spurred on the momentum of the bidders. Once the bidding was complete Club Members wandered the audience with small buckets in hand collecting poker chips pledges in the amounts of $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000 dollars. Following behind the bucket brigade was the ever gracious staff of Meadowood with scrumptious cupcakes for all. Audience and Club Members had a wonderful time in support of much good work done for the youth of Napa Valley. A big THANK YOU all!

4 Girls Cooking

What's Cooking?

One of the more popular weekly classes is the Cooking Class. Over the past year Club Members have measured, sifted, sliced, chopped, baked and sautéed their way to creating and eating a variety of delicious and nutritious snacks and mini meals. Club Members learn about nutrition, kitchen safety and correct food handling and preparation. Members have also received valuable life lessons while working cooperatively in the Cooking Class. Time in the Kitchen provides successes and some failures. Members learn that the job they do can affect the outcome of a project done by many, that a tasty outcome is the result of care and attention. Best of all many friendships have been made and maintained over the center island workspace of the Club's Kitchen. Food in so many ways supports and sustains.

The school year has ended, we here at the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Helena and Calistoga and the Calistoga Teen Center turn our attention to the start of our Summer Programs.

In the brief pause between the two I find myself reflecting on what a wonderful, successful, not without its' challenges, year it has been for both Clubs. Savoring our successes I think of all those in our upper Napa Valley Community who have supported, encouraged and sponsored our Clubs and Members.

The accomplishments of our Clubs, Members and Staff would not be possible without our greatly valued supporters and partners. To Auction Napa Valley and The Vintners Association, Trinchero Family Estates, The Napa Valley Community Foundation, the Napa County Office of Education, The City and Schools of St. Helena, The City and Schools of Calistoga, and to all the local businesses, parents and individuals who have so generously supported The Boys & Girls Clubs we THANK YOU for your commitment to the vitality and future of the Clubs and the youth we serve.

Your generosity allows our Clubs to hire and keep a remarkable, talented and dedicated staff. Your support helps us continue to provide the best and most creative programs in Education and Career, Character and Leadership Development, Life skills and The Arts possible.

Truly, it does take a community to raise a child and we are blessed to have such a Community as you.
