Best Western Kirkwood Inn Helping Toys For Tots!
| A small, local hotel is looking to make a big difference in the lives of some area children for Christmas. The Best Western Kirkwood Inn is teaming up with the USMC Reserves Toys for Tots campaign with "Casual for Christmas" to raise money for a toy shopping spree. So far, Best Western Kirkwood Inn has raised around $193 for Toys for Tots, by allowing employees to contribute money and "buy" a casual day which allows them to dress out of uniform. They fully expect to exceed their initial $500 goal by the time the campaign is over. "The interest everyone has for this special project is overwhelming", shares Cindy Brasseur, General Manager, "there's a big cheer when we post the contribution totals each Monday".

Downtown Kirkwood Holiday Walk
| There will be fun for the entire family at Downtown Kirkwood's Holiday Walk in downtown Kirkwood Saturday, November 19 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Activities for children, holiday shopping, free entertainment and refreshments will make this day a festive way to begin your celebration of the holiday season. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will delight children with their arrival by Amtrak train. After his grand entrance, Santa will pose for photos. Be sure to bring your camera to snap a photo for your Christmas cards! Adults will enjoy shopping for holiday gifts offered by Downtown Kirkwood's unique specialty stores-many of which will feature free refreshments and special offers. The Kirkwood Train Station, 110 E. Argonne, is the headquarters for children's activities. Santa will greet his admirers and letters to Santa will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mrs. Claus will captivate young listeners with her holiday stories beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Lucille Rapp Tumblers and Dancers, The St. Peters School Choir and The Statesmen Singers will also perform during the event. Also from the train station, catch the Holiday Trolley and take a free ride around historic Downtown Kirkwood from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the Downtown Kirkwood Holiday Walk, Youth in Action a nonprofit community service organization, will be accepting donations for Nurses for Newborns and Make-A-Wish Foundation at the train station. Canned food, baby food and cash donations will be collected. While they last, delicious cookies from McArthur's Bakery and hot chocolate will be available. Kirkwood Kiwanis will also be serving free grilled hot dogs near the historic Kirkwood Train Station. At Kirkwood Farmers' Market, the Gingerbread Shoppe and Christmas Tree Lot will sample their special holiday candies and baked goods and offer a preview of their natural decorations and Christmas trees. The Holiday Walk is coordinated by Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District with support from McArthur's Bakery. The downtown Kirkwood organization serves business and property owners in downtown Kirkwood through marketing, public area enhancements and administration of Kirkwood Farmers' Market.
