What's Going On At The Chamber

By Jim Wright

Jim Funny
A common question we hear around the community is "what's new at the Chamber?" Since the question is asked so often, now might be a good time to bring you up to date. First of all, T-shirts. Chamber Creative VP - Lori Givan has designed three different shirts with the following sayings: "Kirkwood It's Not Just A Place It's An Attitude", "Friends Don't Let Friends Wear Orange" and "Kirkwood You Like This" (referring to the Chamber's Facebook page).

Shirts are $20.00 per and will be for sale on our website www.KirkwoodDesPeres.com and at the Chamber office. Limited supply available. Get yours before they are gone!

Next, the Chamber is hoping to begin discussions with the city of Kirkwood regarding their proposed Changeable Message Signs.

September Ambassador Article

By Dennis Cooper

As an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, from time-to-time we are called upon to assist in one way or another, such as writing a segment for the Chamber e-Newsletter. As is the case with most things in life this assignment can be considered either "the good news or the bad news".

The "good news" is you get to write an article, the "bad news" is you have got to write an article. When given this opportunity, I prefer to utilize the "stream of consciousness" process and decided to write about one of my favorite topics.

Now, those of you who know me know already that my favorite topics in no specific order consist of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Reverse Mortgages, Golf and Networking. After this weekend and the Steelers-Ravens game, I don't think I want to focus on the Steelers. That will wait until later in the season.

I would prefer to meet individually with anyone, to explain how Reverse Mortgages could be useful personally or for your clients.

Any discussion of golf is best served in person as well, so that the use of one's hands can better add to the mental pictures formed by re-playing last week's round.

That leaves us with networking. Like many of you, networking is a major source of leads for my business and the way I initiate many business relationships which, in turn, provides future leads. Networking is also one of the main reasons why I and many of you consider joining an organization such as The Chamber.

I personally feel that the Kirkwood-Des Peres Area Chamber does a superior job in assisting networking not only at the monthly lunches, Business After Hours and Educational Forums, but also through the attitude fostered and reinforced by Jim, Iris, Lori, Gina and Beth. I belong to many networking organizations including multiple chambers and I think you would be hard pressed to find a more receptive environment to develop and grow your business.
