Finalists will receive media recognition and many entries will be included in Imagine Our Algae Future, a new book about the International Algae Competition, publications and exhibitions around the world.
2012 Exhibitions
We are now prospecting public exhibition venues and sponsors for 2012 Algae Competition Exhibitions in museums, conference centers and universities around the world. These will be a multi-sensory experience of landscape and architecture designs on wall murals and video monitors, working models and algae food and beverages to delight the taste. AWARD PRIZE WINNERS
Robert Henrikson and Mark Edwards announced the prize winners of the Algae Competition at a special event on April 12 at the Algae Technology Platform USA Conference in San Diego, California. Juror scoring was very close. There were ties for first place prizes. Beyond these prizes, competition winners, finalists and many entries will be recognized in upcoming media news releases, articles, videos, publications, exhibitions and "Imagine Our Algae Future", a full color book based on the Algae Competition available soon on Amazon.com.
$3,000 Algae Abundance Grand Prize. Best Video.1190. Video. Influx-Studio, Mario Caceres, Christian Canonico. Green Loop: Marina City Global Algae Retrofitting, Chicago, USA. Algae proposal for one of the most innovative buildings in the Loop of Chicago: Marina City Towers. Aligned with the Chicago Climate Action Plan (2008), goal is to showcase algae with green technologies and clean polluted air, reuse waste water, produce energy and food onsite.
$2,000 Algae Landscape Design First Prize. Two winners will share the prize award and receive $1,000 each.1164. Sean Quinn. Process Zero: Retrofit Resolution. Federal Building, Los Angeles, USA. Goal is to design zero environmental footprint, energy self-sufficiency for existing building using Living Building Challenge 2.0 guidelines. A modular system of algae tubes wrap the building and absorb the sun's radiation to produce lipids for fuel production and shade the interior office spaces.

The Urban River from waste to source. Masterplan for an urban village of 20,000 people in Shenzhen city of 14 million people. Redesign with an elevated urban river roofscape, greening with modular algae units for waste treatment and fuel production, urban farming, community space. $2,000 Algae Production Systems First Prize. Two winners will share the prize award and receive $1,000 each.
2118. Vincent Guigon, Antenna Technologies, Geneva. Circular Tank Technology to reduce production costs. Antenna is an NGO promoting spirulina against malnutrition with projects in Africa and Asia, with a mission to make spirulina more affordable. Circular tank technology decreases costs by 20% through long lasting maintenance of culture quality, without purges, and free water stirring.
2121. Video. Laurent Lecesve, Hybrid énergies & Eco-Systèmes. Organic spirulina microfarm with biogas plant. Normandy, France. The farm contains 4 ponds of 50m2, micro-digester, heat pump with heat network connected to digester and ponds, harvesting room with press and solar dryer, and a culture laboratory. The goal of the digester is to grow spirulina organically using cow and horse manure as main inputs.

Two winners will share the prize award and receive $1,000 each. Dances With Algae. Canada. Marine algae foods and recipes. Foods on the menu at the fictional 'Algalicious Cafe and Restaurant' are sea vegetable bouquet, caper stir-fry, kombu-banded seafood cakes and algee-licious popcorn.

Voted by participants in the Algae Competition. 1123. Video. Frederick Givins. Algae Powered Mushroom Farm in Congo. A mobile algae powered mushroom farm can be placed anywhere in the world to support micro-economic development. Algae will be used as a food source and organic fertilizer for the mushrooms. Two target groups would be urban homeless and the poor of rural communities.
