President's Message
|
Hello fellow NAIOPians.
In a recent trip to California, I was talking with some locals about their lack of rain in the area. One of my travel companions happened to be from Texas, and we've all heard stories of the devastating drought conditions they have suffered through this past year. All over the world, there are places that couldn't imagine in their wildest dreams being blessed with the water resources that we casually take for granted on a daily basis. I know I take it for granted. However, water technology has really been a hot topic lately in Milwaukee. That's the lead in, here's the pitch. Our programs team has put together a great event in conjunction with the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance (WGBA) called Lake Michigan: A WATERfall of Opportunity. I would encourage all of you to check this program out. As real estate practitioners, we all have a vested interest in new business growth for Wisconsin. Perhaps we can stop taking our water for granted, and use it, responsibly, of course, as a resource to fuel Wisconsin's economic development opportunities.
Finally, I am extremely pleased to announce that the Wisconsin Chapter was presented with two awards at the annual Chapter Legislative and Leadership Retreat in Washington D.C. in February-the Capitol Dome Award which is presented by our National Office to the chapter with outstanding accomplishments in their Government Affairs Program and the chapters Sponsorship Program which is judged by fellow chapter representatives. Nice job to all!.
Until next month,
~Jim |

New for 2012 |
In addition to some new board members and a new chapter President, we have been diligently working on many exciting new things for the chapter including:
- A new website developed in WordPress that is Google Analytics friendly, features upcoming committee meeting dates and locations, committee members, new event registration features, a job posting section and a blog section. The website is still (and will always be) a work in progress. The next feature you will see is a Gallery Page. Visit us often!
- Social media - we will be utilizing LinkedIn and Twitter to feed information to members. Link to the NAIOP Wisconsin and NAIOP Wisconsin DL groups and follow us on Twitter for information about our chapter that you won't see anywhere else!
- Course Offerings: We will be offering TWO courses this year - Development Finance Fundamentals taught by Jerry Franke of Wispark and Real Estate Investment Analysis taught by Greg Walz of Northwestern Investment Management Co. The courses qualify for continuing education for real estate folks and for attorneys.
- Reorganized Marketing and Communications Committee cochaired by Scott Langlois and Mary Claire Lanser focusing on reaching YOU our valued members. The MCC will also be working on a surprise for our upcoming 10 year anniversary in 2013.
