SELF TALK - Part One

By Solutions EAP

Do you talk to yourself?  Are you a little hesitant to answer that question, lest you be thought weird or crazy?  Well, the truth is, we all talk to ourselves, whether it's out loud or in our heads.  Maybe the real question is, are you aware that you do this and of what you are saying?

We are all aware of the impact our words can have on others.  The old adage "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" attests to this.  If you have children, you probably monitor what and how you communicate to them, knowing what we say can resound for years in their minds.

Knowing this, should it be any less important to pay attention to the conversation going on in your own head?  Do you say things to yourself when you make a mistake, that you wouldn't dream of saying to others? We'll be looking at self talk, its impact, and positive steps we can take.

Visit Solutions EAP online or call 1-800-526-3485 for assistance for all life's challenges. It is free, confidential, and open to family members.
