CT Nursery & Landscape Association

  

Please welcome the CT Nursery & Landscape Association as they hold their 2012 Winter Symposium  for the first time on the MCC campus. The event is being held on January 4-5 with an expected attendance of 500-600 people over the two days. 

 

Seminars will take place in the SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium and the LRC Fireside Commons. Over 60 vendors are expected and will be located in the AST and LRC Rotundas and Gallerias on both floors.

 

Lunch will be served to the Landscape Conference Participants both days between 11:30 AM and 1 PM provided by Lessings. Their serving lines will be outside the Culinary Arts Center and the attendees will use the CAC as well as seating on the 2nd floor Lowe for lunch. There may be overflow into the Atrium and cafeteria seating areas, too.

 

Thank you for providing the attendees with a warm MCC welcome.

Center For Teaching Instructional Skills Workshops

 

Have you ever wanted to learn about and experiment with new methods of instruction? Would you like to meet with other dedicated professionals and receive careful feedback from one another on your teaching methods? Does an intensive workshop solely dedicated to helping you become a better teacher sound appealing? If so, an Instructional Skills Workshop may be for you. An I.S.W. is a great way to explore the teaching and learning process and to improve your instructional skills.

 

The Center For Teaching is offering two Instructional Skills Workshops this winter.  If you are interested in participating, fill out the registration form  and return it to the person indicated. 

 

African-American History Month Opening Ceremony 2012

Part of our celebration of African-American History Month will include the presentation of our second annual Leadership Awards to recognize those who have exhibited outstanding leadership and activism within our community.   

 

Nominations for the Leadership Awards are being accepted until January 20, 2012. Please feel free to make a nomination for one or multiple recipients. Forms can be emailed to Kendrick T. Roundtree, Coordinator of Mentoring and Minority Student Program or faxed to 860-512-3351.

 

Winter Intersession Writing Center & Computer Facility Hours

  • The Writing Center is open for the Winter Intersession: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 12:30 - 2:30 PM. Click here for the schedule. Tutoring appointments and Math Lab hours will return early in the Spring '12 semester. 
  • Student computer facilities in the Library are open for the Intersession 2011-12. Click here for the schedule. There will be no Computer Lab hours.

Mishi-maya-gat Spoken Word & Music Series

January 19, 2012, 7:00 PM, SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium

 

Live music by Black Cadillac will start at 7:00 PM. Black Cadillac, an acoustic roots trio, is made up of three professors at MCC: Andrew Paterna, guitar and vocals; Grace Talaga, vocals and percussion; and Patrick Sullivan, guitar and vocals.

 

At 8:00 p.m. there will be a Celebration of Adastra Press, a literary letterpress located in Easthampton, MA. Gary Metras, editor and printer of Adastra Press and author of 16 books and chapbooks, including "Until There is Nothing Left" (Ridgeway Press and The Writers Voice 2003), will give a reading. Also reading will be Jim Beschta, author of" North from Yaounde", published by Adastra Press in 2010, and poetry instructor in Worcester Art Museum's adult education program.

Introduction to Project Management (presented by Catherine Seaver)

This workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals of project management and provide examples of how project management is used to turn a seemingly complex job into a manageable project that can be completed on time and within a budget. Participants will have an opportunity to test their project management skills by identifying tasks and deliverables, developing a timeline with milestones, and reducing the threat of 'scope creep.'
