Dear Friends,
As one of the founders and the newly appointed Executive Director of Consejo, I'm happy to back directly serving my community. When Consejo was founded in 1978, I never imagined that it would grow from a tiny one-room storefront office in White Center to seven offices with 88 employees. Next year will be Consejo's 35th anniversary. In preparation for this milestone, I, along with the Board of Directors of Consejo, have identified three key priorities for our future:

Healing through Art Therapy
Luis* was experiencing depression when he started the art sessions. He was introduced to art therapy as part of his treatment plan. Luis learned how to create yarn paintings, drawing on a technique by the Huichol Indians of Central Mexico. Before he started, Luis did not know that he would have the extraordinary talent to master this technique. He completed six large pieces (one is below) and donated them to Consejo. Luis is grateful to Consejo for providing an artistic outlet to help him cope with his depression.
"For me Consejo has been better than my family. I have received here all the support that I have needed. Through art therapy, to be specific "Huichol art," a Mexican indigenous art form, which I learned from our teacher Tobías, I found relief for my depression and I feel much better. I have grown spiritually! Now I am stable physically and mentally and I am dedicating my free time to learn other things, like music and ceramic."
