In this article we will explore the the history and benefits of Hot Stones Therapy. First the history dates back to the Native Americans. They used the stones during sweat lodge ceremonies. During the ceremony, as the Native Americans would sweat out the impurities in thier system. They would take the the hot stones and rub them on thier bodies in order to relax during the ceremony. The stones became known as "grandfather stones". In Hawaii the stones were used in a similiar way, however the stones were taken from lava stones or "pohaku". Mary Hannigan revived its use in 1993 calling it LaStone.

The stones are warmed to 115 to 125 degrees and the therapist uses oil.  The oil absorbs into the stone quickly, and is easier with the fluidity of the massage.
