Greetings! | |
We're heading into the final stretch of Falmouth's off-season. So far, the mild weather has been a pleasant surprise, (trying not to jinx us) but with the approach of spring, FHT has events, program updates and announcements to share.
We have received some much-needed foundation support that will allow us to reach those New Year's goals we previously set. Please read on to learn about our grant awards.
Your membership and support of the Falmouth Housing Trust is very much appreciated. Don't forget to check out our blog, which can be read on-line at Falmouth.Patch.com.
As always, take a minute to email FHT and tell us what you like, want to know more about, and how else we can serve you - the Falmouth community!

Kristen and Doug Shearer are celebrating 9 years in business at Paine's Patio and Nautical Nice, and their way to thank our community is to donate to a local charity. The charity in their Anniversary Album with the most "likes" will win a donation of $900! Keeping in mind that the average donation for the Falmouth Housing Trust is $25, don't you agree that the $900 is pretty spectacular? I hope so! Flynn House Featured Resident | |
Meet Cathy!
She moved into the Gerald Flynn House in February of 2011. Cathy came to us from a series of sober facilities. Her first stop was the psychiatric unit at the Brockton Hospital where she was treated for mental exhaustion and underwent the painful process of detoxification. From there Cathy was transferred to Highpoint in Plymouth, then a transitional facility in New Bedford, where she waited for local placement for three and a half months. Cathy was sent to Emerson House in West Falmouth, a program of Gosnold on Cape Cod. Once at Emerson House Cathy's recovery began. While she had been sober since her stint in Brockton Hospital she received no support and no therapy, and because of that hadn't yet started to recover from substance abuse.

Cathy stayed at Emerson House for five months and then applied for residence at the Gerald Flynn House. She received her foundation in sobriety at Emerson House, but regained her self-confidence, respect for others, and learned how to live an independent sober life while at Flynn House. "I love it here, I am close to everyone and consider the folks here family. It is hard to leave, but the opportunity is there for me, and it is the next step in my journey," said Cathy.
Cathy's year at Flynn House gave her the time to educate herself and focus on continued sobriety and creating a healthy network and lifestyle. "The strictness and structure of the Flynn House really helped me early on, to concentrate on what was important, and focus my energy on me," she said.
Cathy will be attending Cape Cod Community College full-time in September and is moving from the Gerald Flynn House this month. She has been hired as a House Manager for the Elise House in Hyannis, owned and operated by Homeless not Helpless, a local non-profit agency. "It is time to pay it forward, and give back all the help I've received by so many."
