Greetings!
|
We're coming to the end of 2011, and the Falmouth Housing Trust has much to celebrate and be thankful for this year! We have New Year's goals set to help more working Falmouth families and individuals gain access to affordable home-ownership in 2012, and our much-needed renovation campaign continues at the Gerald Flynn House. Your membership and support of the Falmouth Housing is very much appreciated. Take a minute to drop us a line and tell us what programs you'd like more information on. Very new is our blog, which can be read on-line at Falmouth.Patch.com or by clicking here. We promise no heavy statistics or graphs! Our hope is that it will be informative, sometimes entertaining, and not crinckle too many noses! The Falmouth Housing Trust is here to serve you - the Falmouth community - so hold us to it! |
Donor Spotlight:
Grace and Suzanne Berestecky! |

This Fall, nine-year-old Grace Berestecky, and her Mom Suzanne, held a charity yard sale at their North Falmouth home. The proceeds were split between the Falmouth Housing Trust and the Falmouth Service Center!
Despite a little inclement weather - remember that rain - the pair did all right, raising a total of $400! When asked why hold a charity yard sale, Mom Suzanne said, "I think it is critical to teach our children about helping others, and you can tell your children what to do until you are blue in the face, but showing them through your actions carries much more weight!"
We agree! Special thanks to Grace and Suzanne! We appreciate their generosity and support! |

A Capital Improvement Plan for the Gerald Flynn House! |

Two years ago the FHT Board of Directors created a capital improvement plan for the Gerald Flynn House and since that time significant grant awards and major donor support has helped renovate a portion of the house. To date, the Gerald Flynn House has had its pink granite foundation repaired, a new all-in-one commercial grade storm and screen door installed, ventilation fans installed in two bathrooms, the south-facing roof replaced, seven bedroom walls repaired and painted, carpeting replaced in two bedrooms, and the floor refinished in two bedrooms. The exterior of the building had a soft-wash earlier this Spring and the grounds were improved as well.
This year, we had two tenants leave the program for all the right reasons, obtaining work and living indepentantly within our community. Presently the House is full, with all seven residents adhering to their Individualized Service Plans, creating sober healthy connections within our community, continuing treatment and counseling as needed and returning to work, school, or volunteering in our community!
Special thanks to Alexander U. Saganic, Hardwood Floor Specialist, who donated his labor and materials to refinish our bedroom hardwood floors earlier this summer! A very special thank you goes out to the Austin Foundation, whose continued generosity has provided for many of the improvements at the Gerald Flynn House! |

Holidays at the Gerald Flynn House!

|
Think waking up in a sober house would be a good way to start your holiday season? You bet, say our residents! Because if not living at the Flynn House, they'd be in a homeless shelter or on the street!
The holiday season can be a tough time of year for someone who is newly recovering from substance abuse. We do our best to make it bearable for our folks, with community support. This year we expect a full house for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Their holidays will include an AA or NA meeting in town, and perhaps a visit with family, but sometimes those relationships can be strained.
Their holiday meals come from donations or the clearance section at our local grocery store. Like other celebrations going on around town, our folks spend the day together, share in the cooking and dinner preparations, and sit down and whisper a few grateful words for where they are.
If you'd like to make a food or holiday decoration donation to the Gerald Flynn House, please contact the Falmouth Housing Trust office to facilitate your kindness, info@falmouthhousingtrust.org, or 508-540-2370. As always your generosity will be acknowledged on corporate letterhead by year-end. |
