Can you believe it? Maybe you haven't been keeping track but this issue of the eNavigator begins our second year!! Quite a milestone and we're proud to be able to connect with all of you even when you're not at the studio! We hope you enjoy knowing what is going on, but if you have some suggestions for what you would like us to include in upcoming newsletters, we're all ears! Send us an email or give a shout out to our eNavigator editor, Leigh McGivern. We truly want to know what information you'd like to include!

Okay, yes, we borrowed a little creative license from Beyonce, but it's going to be a blast!

We had such a good time participating in the Iowa Women's Clinic ru1desmoines event at West Glen in June, we're doing it again. This time around the event is for young women ages 21 to 34 years old.

DATE: Tuesday, Sept. 20
TIME: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
LOCATION: GPS
PARKINGParking on the east and west sides of the building, as well as the southeast corner in back of the building or metered parking on the street.

For more information or to register for the event visit the ru1desmoines website. Mix and mingle with old and new friends, eat some good-for-you food, a few cocktails, plus information about all aspects of working out at GPS. If you can, come dressed to play on the equipment and participate in some mini-classes.

Not under 35 years old? Please forward this invitiation to someone you know so they can get in on the fun! We plan on doing this again for our women 35+ years old, so watch for that, too!
September Observances
Whew! September is jam packed with so many good-for-you national observances, that we're just choosing some we know will mean something to you. And, of course, there is Labor Day! Salute to all American workers!

Age Is Just a Number
Grandpa & granddaughterSeptember is Healthy Aging Month and Sept. 19-25 is Active Aging Week. If there's one thing our clients know how to do is live life to the fullest and not pay attention to the numbers on the birthday calendar. Pilates is just one of the fitness services we offer that can really help you do just that. It strengthens and lengthens your muscles, keeps you lean and flexible, and gives you an all-over good feeling! Try it!

So Important to Pile on the Healthy Food
We can't let this one go by ... September is Fruit & Veggie Month. There is no substitute for making sure you have
enough portions of nutritious and delicious fruits and veggies in your daily diet. Shake it up a bit and buy something new at the grocery store or farmer's market. That's the way to stay healthy and enjoy new and different foods and recipes.

Know Your Numbers
Adults and children alike can fall prey to believing they are healthy if their weight is in check, they eat right and exercise regularly. Do youself and your family a favor and make sure you know your numbers.

September is National Cholesteral Education Awareness Month. High cholesterol is one of the silent killers that can lurk in the seemingly healthiest bodies. So your next annual check up, make sure you ask your medical professional to check your cholesterol, and know the number you should maintain to stick around awhile. Use this month to educate yourself and stay healthy for life!

For the Whole Fam & Women
Friday, Sept. 24, is Family Health and Fitness Day USA followed by National Women's Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, Sept. 28. So if you include your family or you are flying solo, take one of those days to make sure you get your workout in, plus talk with the fitness and health experts at GPS to help you add something new to your workout or get on track if you've run off the rails a bit. Kids, adults, we can help all ages. You deserve it!
Trainer's Tip
Your Kicks Matter
Huh? What? Kick who? No, no, no. What we want to talk with you about this month is the importance of proper footwear ... Gym shoes 2you know ... your kicks!

They say two things in life you should be willing to spend good money on are mattresses and shoes. We couldn't agee more! Having the proper foot support while exercising (and appropriate shoes for what type of training) can help you acheive your goals and prevent injury. For those who are training for the IMT Des Moines Marathon (like our own Gigi and Rebecca), make sure they have a shoe that fits properly and will get them to the finish line, tired but uninjured!
