Greetings!
It can't be already ... say it isn't so ... we're in it, it's SUMMER! Have you been meeting all your fitness goals you set way back on January 1? If you just aren't feeling inspired enough (or maybe someone you love is in that rut), get thee to GPS. As that great American patriot and statesman Benjamin Franklin said (he was so wise): "All mankind is divided into three classes: those that are immovable, those that are movable, and those that move." We can definitely help you be in that last category! Hint: read the Trainer's Tip below for more advice on how to avoid fitness ennui. |
| Congratulations, Lisa!! | | |
You Did It, Girl!
Hats off and kudos to our own Lisa Lewis. Lisa recently completed rigorous training and testing to become a STOTT PILATES™ instructor trainer. Now GPS has TWO instructor trainers in the studio, when most of our competitors don't even have ONE. Lisa's dedication to improving her skills and achieving this credential are laudable and we appreciate all she has accomplished. |
| FREE Workouts on Tuesdays | | | Don't Let a Little Heat or the Gawkers Stop You
Ok, so the first workout in the park was canceled because of squishy grass, but we held the second one and
WE MISSED YOU! Working out in the great outdoors is a whole new experience you have to try. It's only 30 minutes. You'll have so much fun it'll go by too quickly and you'll be looking forward to the next one. So here are the details:
DATES: Tuesdays, July 12 & 26; August 9 & 23
TIME: 5:30-6 p.m.
LOCATION: South of the Pappajohn Education Center, facing Locust St. & 13th
The workout is for everyone, not just GPS clients. No need to call or register, just show up ready to exercise, and bring along your friends, neighbors, co-workers, anyone you'd like. Yes, if it rains the outdoor workout is canceled, but we're running at 50/50 so it probably won't happen, right? See you there! |

It's Not Too Late to Be a Runner
Last month we invited you to join the new IMT Running Club. GPS is a major sponsor of the club and I (Gigi) am really involved in helping everyone train. We want to see more of our clients give this a try. We believe you will be hooked. It's non-competitve, friendly, and best of all, FUN (get in on the monthly Tuesday night Fat Tire Fun Runs)!
When the IMT Des Moines Marathon has come and gone in October, GPS (again, specifically me) is thinking about a women-only running club to keep everyone in great shape over the cold winter months. Let's face it, whether you are new to running, have a little experience, or are a pro, once you reach your goal of running whatever distance you've set for yourself in the IMT Des Moines Marathon, you will be in the best shape you've ever been. The women's running club will help you keep that level of fitness and your running skills even when the weather outside is frightful.
When we're not running for Fat Tires, Tuesdays include running education sessions and every Saturday there is a group run. Membership in the running club is just $20 (for an individual or a family). |
| July Observance | |
Have fun, but stay safe. This is typically one of the more dangerous holidays, and we want to see you back next week in one piece.
Speaking of Staying Safe ...
Make sure you understand the new guidelines about protecting you and your loved ones from the sun's damaging rays. Even though packaging on most sunscreen products has not yet been changed, here's what you need to know about the UVAs and UVBs. |

Goal Setting
Keeping fit is a continual process of setting and achieving new goals. Staying at the same level -- not challenging yourself -- leads to boredom, and even worse, as you age, a fitness decline. Read this article about goal setting and exercise to help you understand how you can keep yourself in the game at any age. |

| It's Not Too Late ... | | Is Your Kid Sitting on the Couch?
Summer is supposed to be the time when even the most sendentary children (the ones who prefer video and computer games to playing softball and swimming) up their physical activity levels.
If your kid is still sitting on the couch or in front of the computer too much, it's not too late to enroll your youngster in CURL™. The program is for kids in grades 3 through 8, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 4:30 p.m. Even though this session began June 13, we still have openings and GPS will prorate the cost to only include the weeks remaining in this session (through August 5). Usually $360 for eight weeks, we have a CURL summer special 15 percent discount, so just $306 for eight weeks. We will prorate that discounted price!! A very good deal!

| Speed & Agility Training for Youth Athletes | | Help Your Child Reach New Goals
Give your budding athlete -- boy or girl -- the edge that will get them to the next level in their sport (or sports). Rodney Filer, Barnstormer, former Hawkeye and pro football great (we might be a tad bit biased) is the man for the job.
For any sport, speed and agility are key to achieving success. Rodney can teach your child the secrets the pros use to hone these skills. Mental toughness helps too, and Rodney knows just how to encourage your athlete so they can be the best they can be. Just call the studio at (515) 279-0242 to get more details. |
|
Well, that's it for this issue. We packed a lot in, and hope it will help you enjoy your summer just a little more. See you soon (in the studio, at the park, running on Saturdays ... take your pick)!
Sincerely, Gigi, Rodney & the Training Team |
