Greetings!
Okay, spring isn't officially over yet, but can we say ... we are so totally pumped about summer! In addition to the sunshine and the great weather (hint, hint Mother Nature), it's when you kick back with the family on the weekends and take your workouts outside. We're planning on doing that for our clients with regular outdoor Tuesday workouts (see below), but if you want to shake up your fitness even more and spend time with the fam, go for a bike ride, swim a few laps at the pool, play some sand volleyball. You get the idea. HAPPY SUMMER!! |
| FREE Workouts on Tuesdays | | | Not the Sculpture Park, But Close
You might remember these from last year and back by popular demand ... drumroll please ... FREE 30-minute workouts every other Tuesday in June, July and August.
A couple of major changes however. Last year we always met and worked out in the Pappajohn Sculpture Park by the T8 (red sculpture west of the Nomad). This year, the city Parks Department is "assigning" all activities of this type to the green space just to the southwest of the Pappajohn Education Center on 13th and Locust. Hey, we can adjust, right?
The other big change is there is now a regular schedule for the workouts, but if the weather is not cooperating, the outdoor workout will be canceled (those of you who participate in interval training on Tuesday nights will take it inside the studio). So here are the details:
DATES: Tuesdays, June 14 & 28; July 12 & 26; August 9 & 23
TIME: 5:30-6:20 p.m.
LOCATION: South of the Pappajohn Education Center, facing Locust St. & 13th
The workout is for everyone, not just GPS clients. No need to call or register, just show up ready to exercise, and bring along your friends, neighbors, co-workers, anyone you'd like. If it rains the outdoor workout is canceled, but we've got our fingers crossed that won't happen most of the days. It's on! See you there! |
| GPS at ru1desmoines Women's Event | | Get Together With the Women
Sorry guys. The Iowa Clinic's Women's Center is sponsoring its Second Annual ru1desmoines women's-only event, Thursday, June 9, at the West Glen Town Center. The event is from 5:30-8 p.m. in the Promenade Building and it's FREE (woot, woot, just our price range). GPS will be doing an equipment Pilates demo on stage at 6:30 p.m., along with a fun, interactive mini-Zumba ® class at 7:30 p.m. Sip and socialize, shop and enjoy the complimentary hors d' oeuvres and cocktails. Be there or be square! |
| IMT Running Club | | Not a Runner? Think Again ...
You may think you can't do a half marathon or a marathon, but it's probably because you've never tried and you don't know how to train. Don't be intimidated, get in the game! We've got a solution for you ...
Get ready for the IMT Des Moines Marathon in October or just learn to be a runner by joining the new IMT Running Club. Gigi and Rebecca will be involved with leading some of the education sessions about running on Tuesdays and will go on some Saturday runs with the group. The cost for joining the running club membership is only $20 (for an individual or a family). There will be Fat Tire Fun Runs once a month on Tuesdays (and yes, it does involve adult beverages if you like). We encourage everyone to give this a try! Hope to see you there! |

It's Not Just Food & Fitness That Keeps You Right
Last month we talked about having good balance as you age. Now let's talk about another type of "balance." Because you know that if something isn't working for you in your life -- family, professionally, emotionally, financially, spiritually -- t can negatively affect your health. If you are struggling to balance all the areas of your life, work through this Wheel of Life exercise to help you assess where you are and how to keep things right! |
