Greetings!

Okay, we're into the second month of the new year. How are those resolutions to eat healthier and exercise more holding up? It's right about now some people are losing steam. Did you start out with a friend and the friend has quit attending? Or maybe you're looking to do something that might give you that extra push to keep going.

If this situation describes you, we have an opportunity that you might want to try. Grab a buddy and you can take advantage of this special: three duet personal training sessions for $99 per person (single personal training sessions usually costs $60 for one person). This special is only for the month of February and it's a short month, so don't let the days slip by into March before you get a kick-butt workout from one of our trainers that will help you keep your 2011 goals on track.

February Observances
Where do we begin? February is a month chocked full of healthy observances. We had to choose, so here goes:

Heart Month & National Wear Red Day
February is Heart Month. How much do you really know about your heart, besides you need it to stay in tip top shape to live a good life? Heart disease is a quiet killer; many are unaware of the warning signs. And women are just as likely to have heart disease as men. Besides quitting smoking, there are a lot of ways you can learn more about your heart and how to take care of it. Regular workouts at GPS are a good start.

And Friday, Feb. 4, is National Wear Red Day -- a national awareness campaign for women about heart disease. If you are at the studio on Friday, wear red and we'll give you a free shiny red apple. You know what they say about an apple a day!

Random Acts of Kindness Week
In today's world it seems civility and simple human kindness are lacking in many areas. We thought it would be a great idea to promote Random Acts of Kindness Week, Feb. 14-20. So whether it's for a family member (and we consider all of you our family), take a little time to walk the talk of kindness and brighten our world.
Preregistration Is Required

Speaking of kindness ...

... be courteous to other clients and please preregister. As classes fill up faster, we want to make sure you get into your favorite class at the time you want, so preregistration is now required for all scheduled classes.

We know this is different for some of our longtime clients, but it's necessary for us to provide the best service in all our classes.

It's easy -- just go online or call (515) 279-0242. We appreciate your cooperation and we know all the other GPS clients do, too! Thank you!

Trainer's Tip
Working Out in the Great Outdoors
We all hate being stuck indoors in the winter -- let's face it, the treadmill only has so much appeal! So when it's not sub-zero temps, try to venture outside for a brisk walk, or even shovel the driveway. Just make sure to be safe! Get a good pair of YakTrax® and follow some of these tips to stay safe while you're exercising or working outside this winter.

Gee, We're Buggy for bodybuggs®

Missed the first order? Get in on the second!
If you just can't seem to lose weight and you are exercising regularly, usually the culprit is what you're eating. Afterall, weight loss is 80 percent nutrition.
bodybugg 2
One of the easiest methods to track your food intake and calories burned is to use a bodybugg®. You've seen Rebecca and Daniel, our trainers from "The Biggest Loser," wearing bodybuggs on their left arms. Now you're probably noticing a lot of our other clients using them, too.

Curious whether it works? Just ask some of our newest (and enthusiastic) bodybugg clients.

GPS is a licensed bodybugg distributor. Our next bodybugg order will be placed Friday, Feb., 18, so if you're interested, ask one of our trainers or call the studio at (515) 279-0242 by that date. The cost is $230, which includes the armband, the watch digital display and a six-month subscription to the online program.
Nutrition Kitchen Recipes
Easy-to-prepare food for the Super Bowl & Valentine's Day
February doesn't bring much respite from the heavy eating that can happen over the holidays. If you want to enjoy Super Bowl XLV without over indulging, try this Southwestern Layered Bean Dip recommended by our resident culinary trainer Tommy Boone.

And, for those of you who want to impress your honey with a romantic, exotic home-cooked dinner, try this recipe for Pomegranate Duck. (Hint: If you want a less exotic entrée, substitute chicken for the duck.)

Please enjoy Valentine's Day with whomever you love (or hope to love). We are glad to see you soon and often and genuinely appreciate your continued support and patronage as we grow.

Sincerely,

Gigi, Rodney & the Training Team
