From the President
Julie Briggs
, CHRVA President

Happy New Year!

Now that the holidays are over, we all can devote ourselves 24/7 to our great love, volleyball. So far we are off to a good start. As I write this, about two-thirds of our members have registered, the Adult Program has kicked off with the Fellowships in November and several weeks of tournaments, and the Scorekeeper Chair, Dixie Collins, tells me that she and her staff have processed more than 2000 tests. Last season we experienced record growth for our Region with an increase of 1300+ new members, or almost 24%.  When compared with the other 39 regions within USA Volleyball, CHRVA lead the growth in the nation in both percentage and actual numbers. We hope we can surpass those figures this season.

Commissioner's Corner
Lisa DiGiacinto, CHRVA Commissioner

An exciting start of the indoor season has begun.  We've managed to navigate our way through the registration of our membership, have attended clinics, and figured out where we will be playing. Tired yet? Nah, we've only just begun. It's time to reconnect with our volleyball friends, or time to make some new ones. It's time to start playing the best sport on the planet.

Call for Board Members Candidates

Now is the time to participate in the selection of your future leaders within CHRVA. The CHRVA Nominations Committee is seeking nominations for the Board of Directors for two-year terms beginning in May 2011. Members of the CHRVA Board of Directors make programmatic, governance, and financial decisions that impact each and every CHRVA member, so this is your opportunity to contribute to this important process. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Rob Baily at 703-855-3391 or rob.baily@chrva.org. The deadline for submitting your name for consideration is Monday, February 14, 2011.

USA Volleyball Adult Open National Championships

Adult Nationals will be held in Dallas, Texas May 28-June 4. Click here for CHRVA deadlines for entry. Registration is now open. All teams are welcome to enter. Please note that there is a new playing category. They are running a sitting volleyball tournament for anyone, able-bodied included, who would like to put in a team. The rules are basically the same except that the net is lower and you must have a "cheek" on the floor when playing the ball.

To obtain a copy of the manual that includes entry and hotel information and rules, click here. Don't forget that all division entries must be approved by our Commissioner, Lisa Digiacinto, so send your entry and check to Lisa by her deadline to ensure that your team will play. Open, Master, and Senior teams may apply directly to the National Office, but in order to receive a post-Championship rebate, you must send a copy of your entry and check to Lisa.

USA Volleyball Plays a Part on Popular ABC TV Show

USA Volleyball was happy to play a small part in a new home for a family in Moorehead, North Dakota.

USA Volleyball was contacted in the fall by the producers of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and asked for assistance in decorating a room in a new house being built for the Grommesh family.

Dear Dr. Digs

Dr. Digs has been getting an unusual amount of letters about the new CHRVA uniform policy. (The unusual parts being that 1. Nobody writes letters anymore; 2. Multiple people are interested in this topic; and 3. Dr. Digs is now referring to himself in the third person, as if trying to write a comedic column wasn't vain enough.) The first one is a text message.
