Insurance! Insurance! Insurance!

It's time to request new certificates of insurance for the facilities that you will be using for practices, clinics, and tournaments for the 2010-2011 season. All new certificates begin on September 1, 2010. Remember: All participants must be members of CHRVA/USAV to be covered under USAV insurance. Requests for insurance must come from the team representative for adult teams/clubs and from the Club Director for junior teams/clubs (you must be a current member to make the request).

Junior Club Directors must send their tryout form to [email protected].  If you did not receive this tryout form, contact Charles in order to receive another copy.

Instructions for Requesting Certificates:
  1. For the facilities that you used this past season: If the facility contact information has not changed, please e-mail me the name of the facility, your name, and team/club name. Certificates will be e-mailed to the e-mail address listed on your membership.
  2. For facilities that are new to your team/club: Please e-mail me your name and team/club, name of facility, facility address, facility contact person, and phone number. Certificates will be e-mailed to the e-mail address on your membership.

Officiating During the 2010-2011 Season
Bryan Strong, Referee Chair

Once again, we are about to embark on another new season. I have to say that there were very few issues to deal with last year, even with the new net rule. Remember we are using the same rule book as last year so I hope you've all remembered to keep the your rule books (Domestic Completion Rule Book - DCR). We have very few to give out to new referees and players this year so ask for another one only if you really need one.

From the Scorekeeper's Table
Dixie Collins, Scorekeeper Chair

Welcome to the 2010-2011 season! If you are reading this article to find out how to become a newly certified scorekeeper or to maintain your scorekeeping certification, I am glad you are interested in staying informed. Let your friends know what you read here and encourage them to read this information as well. If you let your certification lapse, and you keep score at a sanctioned tournament, you are jeopardizing your eligibility, your team's eligibility, and your referee rating. Everything you need to know should be on the new Chesapeake Region website. Read and re-read all the information and, if you still have questions, I'll do my best to answer them for you. Call or email me.

2010 Fellowship Season
Julie Briggs, Fellowship Coordinator

As you assemble your teams for the coming indoor season, you will also want to think about CHRVA practice tournaments called Fellowships. Fellowships give teams an opportunity to "audition" new players without having to make a season-long commitment, but most important, they are the Region's only vehicle for training and certifying new referees and scorekeepers. If you have players on your team who plan to become certified officials, they will need to attend the appropriate referee and/or scorekeeper clinic(s) and then attend one or two Fellowships in order to get rated or trained.

Junior Changes and Improvements for the 2010/2011 Season
Charles Ezigbo, Junior Girls Program Director

All Adult Coaches Must Be Impact Certified
2009/2010 (last season) was the end of the grace period for adult coaches who are not IMPACT certified to be on the roster of a junior team. Any adult coach who has not completed the IMPACT or CAP course cannot be attached to a junior's roster. The registration system will not allow it.

Volunteer Needed:  Juniors Outdoor Program

Do you like to play outdoor volleyball? Would you like to see more opportunities for Junior Boys and Girls to play outdoors?

If you answered yes, CHRVA needs YOU!

We are looking for a volunteer to help coordinate the Juniors Outdoor Program. It would involve working with existing outdoor programs to add a Juniors' Program or help them enhance the program that they already run. We are looking for someone with creativity and commitment, and most important, the time to make the phone calls, create the program format, and find volunteers to help out onsite at the tournaments.

If you are interested, please contact the Commissioner, Lisa D, at [email protected].
