QUICK LINKS
Greetings!

It's hard to believe a whole month has already gone by since the inaugural newsletter! It's been a busy time for LMV, with an extremely successful trip to Oasis, a great series of clinics in El Salvador, and trips to Mexico run by multiple chapters.

With all that behind us, we're looking forward to even more successful work ahead! The April 10th Board of Directors meeting, which is open to all active members, is being held this quarter at the Napa County Airport. Feel free to join us and hear what's going on in every corner of the Flying Docs' world!
Director's Note
It's amazing how quickly my time with LMV has gone by. It seems like only a few weeks ago that I was (nervously) attending my first board of directors meeting. Since then, there has been a whirlwind of projects that has kept me occupied!

Most recently, much of my work has been aimed at helping the budget committee (see article below!) get off the ground. As LMV puts down roots, it's important for us to remain fiscally accountable and transparent about where all the donations we receive go. As an all-volunteer organization, we aim to have as much of our money as possible directed toward supporting clinic trips, medical supplies, and pilot needs.

This high level of trip financing is only possible because of your donations and hard work. Out of respect for your gifts to us, we want to make sure we are equally able to account for every dollar of that money. This means a lot of work for our treasurers, both at corporate and across the chapters, and we hope you'll thank them for their hard work at your next chapter meeting.

In tandem with your treasurer's efforts to stretch every dollar, we're starting to look at fundraising options that will allow us to take on bigger projects, create more Angel Fund seats on trips, and perhaps even establish a small physical office and storage space that can be used for LMV's needs as an organization. If you have any contacts you think could help us reach our goals, let us know! We value making new partnerships across our diverse communities, and a lot has been made possible by people like you reaching out - to your companies, Rotary Clubs, church groups, and more. Thanks to everyone who has done so and helped keep our mission alive.

Regards,
Rachel
Great Collaboration on Trip to Punta Abreojos!
Abreojos Dental WorkThe Truckee and Reno chapters collaborated to send an awesome group of Flying Docs to Punta Abreojos in March. Over 207 people received treatment that included dental work, teeth cleanings, optometric fittings (thanks for the glasses, Denny!), and chiropractic visits. The team of 18 also took the time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings in Abreojos. Thanks to the town (Lupita, Francisco, et al), the cooperativa, and Dr. Craig Huenergardt of Reno chapter for creating such a successful collaboration!
March Oasis Trip Features More than 50 LMV Members
The stats on the March trip to Thermal, CA aren't back yet, but we expect record-breaking stats on the number of people served! Our list of members attending definitely doesn't have everybody. If you're a member and went to Oasis and your name isn't on this list, let us know so we can recognize your contributions in the next newsletter when we publish the statistics from the trip! Write your name and chapter to execdir@flyingdocs.org

Folsom Glasses Top Well Over 1000 Pairs in March!
Denny FreidigPictured is Gold Country's Denny Freidig picking up several cases of "readers" & sunglasses from Folsom Prison. The Folsom Project for the Visually Impaired (now part of the Prison Industry Authority) once again provided glasses for several LMV trips scheduled this Spring. Gold Country, Truckee and Central America chapters were all provided glasses for clinics in Sonora and El Salvador. Monte Short of the Central America chapter expected to distribute nearly 1000 pairs while on their 1 week clinic to this impoverished Central American country.

Lions International, the Folsom Project, and Los Medicos Voladores (LMV) have all worked together to obtain, clean, sort, measure, and distribute these glasses by placing on LMV aircraft. The program has caught the attention of all 5 LMV chapters, all of whom have requested glasses for trips over the next few months.

A special thanks goes out to program supervisor Jeff Snoozy and the inmates of PIA, without whom LMV could not continue to have the major impact on the quality of life of those they serve.

Corporate Budget Committee Meetings
Budget Committee
On February 20th, the corporate budget committee had its first meeting in Napa, California. Members Tom Palmer (president), Adrian Fenderson (PR director), Rachel Bernhard (executive director), Liz Schrick (treasurer, South Bay), Clem Schrick (trip coordinator, South Bay), and Ramon Sevilla (South Bay) attended to give input on LMV's budget status and fiscal accountability.

As other budget committee members were unable to attend, a follow-up meeting is being held April 3rd in order for everyone to express their point of view. Any recommendations of the committee will be made at future board meetings.
Renew Your Membership Online!
LMV is working hard to make it easier for its members to get involved with the organization. One recent change is being able to pay membership dues online for South Bay, High Sierra, and Reno chapters. We look forward to getting all the chapters online and making this that much easier for you!

To renew your membership online, simply go to http://www.flyingdocs.org and click on the "Members" tab. Once there, you can scroll down the left-hand side until you see the log-in. Type "lmvmember" as the username and "lmv" as the password. Once logged in, you'll see a "pay dues online" box pop up on the website. Click your chapter (if available), type in your information, and you're set for another year of great work and community!
