Dear Friends
I've made substantial progress since I last wrote, and well I might. The photo date is only a week and a half away. This letter shows some of the clamping steps along the way. At the end of this letter I'm posting the entire schedule for the NH Furniture Masters Association. I'll be at most of these events. Not listed below is that at Canterbury Shaker Village I'll be doing a carving demonstration August 6. Also, I'll have some things at Living with Craft at the League of NH Craftsmen Fair at Sunapee State Park, August 7 to 14.

As it turns out, clamping this desk was a pretty complicated process. I had to think carefully about what order to do things in to make it possible. Had I done it in the wrong order, I would not have been able to fit the next part in place. Turns out it took twelve stages, or which this is one. Each time I had to apply the glue to certain parts while leaving the rest dry fit for later disassembly. That way I only had to concentrate on a few joints at a time, making sure they are  tight.

This is the glue up in the previous frame taken back apart, and the section behind is getting ready for the next glue step. At each stage I also have to make sure everything is perfectly square. Otherwise the drawers won't fit, or the desk top won't be flat.

Here's a preview of what's on the horizon. I've mentioned in previous letters a project coming up for the League of NH Craftsmen's new Headquarters. I'm to make a series of ten relief carved panels to go above the reception desk. Each panel is a close up of hands working in a different media. This photo shows the drawings transferred to cardboard templates, with the  blocking roughed out. This is a very exciting project for me, as I'd like to be doing more public art pieces.
