| A scale model
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here Pam is showing you the scale model. For the CD's the cabinet will have eight drawers in two columns, and these will be behind doors to simplify the look. Between these columns will be a set of four smaller drawers, and another with a curved front bridges this whole set. We settled on this concept the previous time we met, when I showed her about a dozen quick sketches of various ideas.
| Drawing the curves for the legs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two curved legs will attach to the side of the cabinet. Here we are drawing the curves on a full sized drawing on plywood. Design is a participatory process. You can see on the model how the curves legs will be. They will be from bubinga, as Pam wanted a figured wood.

| Selecting the hardware
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In this photo I am showing Pam the hardware that will be used. The CD drawers will be on full extension plus slides to make sure there will be access to the ones all the way in back. We've found a spring loaded rack for the discs so they will pop up and op in.
| The sketch for the cabinet fronts
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The doors in front of the CD drawers is where I'll do some carving. Pam is of Macedonian descent, so we've picked a theme reflective of that. Sorry it's hard to see here. The design has grape leaves, a hoopoe bird, and a Macedionian shield, with vines and tendrils in an Art Neuvo style. Actually, I showed Pam two hoopoe sketches and she picked the other one, with it's crest unfolded.

I'm certainly looking forward to getting started on this. I had planned to buy the wood today, but alas, I'm home sick. I'll send more articles as the work progresses. If you enjoy this letter please pass it on to anyone you know who may enjoy it too.
