Dickerson Update

Jordan PoffenbergerGreat news about the Dickerson Whitewater Center. After construction at the Mirant plant is completed by the end of this year, we should have regular unrestricted access to our whitewater course beginning in January 2010.  So, don't forget to renew your BCE membership before January.   Consequently, BCE is bidding on the U.S National Championships and North American U23 Championships for September 2010.
BCE's Fall Racing Weekend

photo by Irene OwsleyOn Saturday, October 24 over 60 boats competed in the Fall Feeder Slalom Classic. Especially fierce was competition for the Scott Parsons Combined Trophy: combining a paddler's best canoe and kayak times, with handicaps, so all classes can compete against one another.    Paddlers jumped into canoes for the first time to try to win the coveted Galasport gift certificates.  Five foot 80 pound Cole Moore bested Scott Parsons by beating the alloted 43% handicap by a whopping 4%.  With the return of the sun on Sunday, 28 paddlers ran and paddled in the Little Falls Biathalon.  Scott Parsons is the fittest of us all and easily topped the field.
2009 Canoe Slalom World Championships

Brett Heyl SeuIn September, the 2009 World Canoe Slalom Championships were held in Seu d'Urgell, Spain.  Our top U.S K-1 paddler was, Brett Heyl  finishing in 7th place.  To see Brett's and World Champion Peter Kauzer's runs, Click Here.  BCE member Scott Mann placed 26th in men's kayak.
2010 Membership Renewal Information

It has been a while since we have been over to Dickerson and I know we are all excited about getting out there.  To make sure things go as smoothly as we can make them and to help ensure a good return to the course we wanted to remind everyone of a few things in renewing or applying for a card.  When applying for your card please it is important to provide accurate and up to date information.  Fill out the online form and make sure you make notes about the cards you wish to receive or any special instructions on mailing or card pick up.  For getting multiple cards, it is best if a form is filled out for each individual needing a card, you can submit the forms to us online without using Pay Pal.  You can pay altogether on the final card entry.

Over the next several weeks we will begin to send out cards in the mail.  We ask that you are patient while we mail them out as we tend to handle BCE cards on Friday each week.  On your first visit to the course please this year, please bring a new signed Mirant Athlete waiver with you to the gate and hand it to the guard.  Drive slowly, try to do exactly as the guards ask, and be polite and respectful.

For individual questions please  email us.
The BCE will be hosting a Thanksgiving slalom training camp, so pass on the word to any interested junior paddlers.   For information contact Dana
