Helping You Connect With The Animals You Love!
|
|
Quite awhile has gone by since my last newsletter. I usually reach out seasonally but life took me down a difficult road of losses, causing delay in my efforts. I'm pleased to be back on track and reconnecting in the beautiful springtime where new growth abounds.
Difficult times are running rampant for many people. Although life is not always easy, it still is beautiful if we choose to see the beauty. No matter how sad we may feel, there is always a joyful moment that can remind us to smile. It takes tremendous courage to remember this during hardships.
Just as the animals teach us...life is from one moment to the next. It's that simple. Your animals often say - "worry less, laugh more, share love often." We all do our best to follow this tall order but the animals know we could get even better at it!
Let us continue to learn and grow with our wise animal companions. Cherish their love and allow them to see you through any obstacles. They are here to help, so let the help in.
Celebrate the beauty in every single day. Find whatever opens your heart and luxuriate in the wonders of it all. I send you love and light and celebrate your beauty. ~Terri

This is a test to pay it forward - please help!
 | Hans - My Hero |
I'm doing something for the first time in my life. I'm asking my clients, friends, and family to help with a PAY IT FORWARD CAMPAIGN FOR ANIMALS. Why? Because I want to test the concept that a little help from many can make a big difference. But, why now? I am motivated for personal reasons to help a serious situation dear to my heart.
The Story: About 14 years ago Hans, the handsome boy dog in the photo to the right, changed my life forever. He is the reason I found the courage to finally become a full-time professional Animal Communicator. His story began when he was diagnosed with cancer in his toe. And my career began because he found renewed trust with my help.
Sandra and Clyde Young, the wonderful humans in Hans's life, contacted me back when I was barely telling anyone that I could talk with animals. They heard about me from their daughter, Teri, who heard about me from a friend. I had gone to Teri's home in Westminster, Colorado to help with her animals. She was so impressed she told her parents they should call me to help them with a unique situation with Hans.
Sandra telephoned me and asked "do you come to Pueblo?" I had only lived in Colorado a brief time and had to say "where is Pueblo?" She explained it was about 2 1/2 hours south of Denver. My response was "no, I don't go that far for an appointment". (At that time I was only doing in-home consultations.) I heard the disappointment in her voice when she told me how desperate she and her husband were feeling with their dilemma.
Hans had his toe removed as a part of his cancer treatment. After the amputation he refused to climb any stairs. The Youngs lived in a multi-level home and Sandra said "we can't possibly lift all 125 pounds of this guy up or down the stairs". I wanted to help but told her it was too far to drive. Without hesitation she offered to drive up to Denver where we could meet.
One week later we met at City Park in downtown Denver. I was very nervous driving to meet Sandra thinking to myself what if she drives all this way and I can't do anything to help? What if my abilities to communicate don't happen? Am I really supposed to trust this skill and help complete strangers?
All nervousness went away once I met Hans. He walked up to me like a Prince. He looked deep into my eyes and told me I was the one to help him. Sandra told me the story of his cancer diagnosis, surgery, and recovery. As she talked, Hans began to send me feelings of fear, confusion, distress, and most of all a lack of trust. He was desperate to understand. I held his right front paw and stroked him lovingly as I explained all the details. He showed me the image of falling on his face as he sent the emotion of fear. He didn't trust his foot was there anymore after all the poking and proding everyone did to it. Although he could see it and feel it, the fear caused him to not believe in it.
I assured Hans his paw was ready to work for him again, reminding him of his strength and ability to climb stairs. I sent mental pictures of him happily going up and down stairways. Then I invited Hans and Sandra to walk over to the IMAX theater nearby. To enter the theater, you must climb a very large and steep staircase straight up. The three of us stood at the bottom looking up to the top.
I knew it felt daunting to Hans as he stood in the middle. He looked to the left at Sandra, then right to me, then he stared up the stairway with big wide eyes. I assured him he could do it and asked him to practice trust. As if a start bell had gone off, he immediately climbed the stairs. His tail was wagging as he quickly reached the top. He turned around and looked at us with abundant pride and ran back down. Sandra threw her arms around me and cried out "I love you!"
I gave Hans a huge hug as we all celebrated the triumphant moment with laughter and joy and wiggles and wags. I knew in that very moment that my life would never be the same. It was forever more going to be my job to do the best I could possibly do to help animals - no matter what fear or self-doubts tried to get in the way. It was my calling. it was my turn to practice trust.
Sandra told practically all of Pueblo about me after that day and she began setting up entire weekends of appointments for me with her friends and family. I would drive down once a month and do consultations from home to home all weekend long. I could never doubt my abilities again. No time. No room. No reason. Each and every animal showed me the way. And, the love of the Young family supported me.
The Reason: Hans gave me the courage to climb my own stairs in the profession of Animal Communication. I wouldn't be available to any of my clients if it weren't for that life changing day with Hans. Now, I want to pay that gratitude forward and ask that all who are grateful for my services join me in helping with a very important cause.
The Animal Welfare and Protection Society began 30 years ago in Pueblo through a grass root effort of volunteers. Sandra Young has been involved for over 20 years. This is the only NO-KILL shelter in southern Colorado. It is a small space of less than 1,000 square feet and yet they have managed to help stray and abandoned dogs find forever homes. They successfully adopted out 300 dogs in just 2010! The shelter has only 12 indoor runs. The rest of the dogs have to live outside, with protection, but are 2 or 3 dogs per small fenced area.
It has been the dream of Sandra and Clyde to build a huge shelter for not only dogs but also cats. This new shelter, Paws for Life, will continue with the NO-KILL policy while offering an entire campus with services such as doggie daycare, training classes, a bark park, an agility course, and an emergency veterinary clinic.
The GOOD NEWS is that the dream has unfolded. Ground was broken in 2010 for the new 15,000 square foot facility and the development is well underway. The BAD NEWS is that the economy is crushing their dream. They have run out of money and cannot finish building the facility. They have had to turn away grant money because they have no funding to meet the requirements of the grants. Only 1/4 of the kennels have been built and they cannot continue without more funding. The photos below show the first shelter and the first wing of the new facility. What a difference. Truly a dream come true for the animals!

The Request:
I ask everyone to make a pledge to my campaign for the Paws for Life Facility and Pay It Forward For Hans.
If each person that reads this newsletter sent in just $10.00, we would raise over $10,000!!! That amount out of your pocket is barely noticeable. But the amount for the shelter could make a huge difference and save innocent lives.
I will track how much we raise so I can report back to all of you in the next newsletter. So, although you pay them directly, please call my office 541-752-2020 or email me to tell us your pledge amount. Names will be kept confidential. I just want to celebrate the grand total raised!
Please go to their website now and pay via PayPal or you can mail a check to them. Or, if you prefer to mail a check to me, that is written to Paws for Life, I will be happy to collect and forward. This is a one time effort. I will not be soliciting help for any other causes - so please decide what you can do to help.
Let's all join in and make a big dream come true!

Flea Product Recall:
"Pro-Meris" - Flea prevention product has been recalled because a study has linked it to a serious, but rare, skin condition known as Pemphigus Foliaceus. Due to the findings the manufacturer, Pfizer, is stopping its production. For further details click on link: Stop Using Pro-Meris
Many drugs that come on the market for animals have not had the quality testing necessary to assure safety. Often we learn about the dangerous side-effects of pharmaceuticals after our animals are harmed. So please be a wise consumer of all medications - especially when used regularly for prevention.
FLEA CONTROL PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION:
After leaving Colorado, where fleas are usually not an issue due to the dryness and altitude, I have experienced the misery of a flea infested home in moist Oregon. Unfortunately, much of what I've been told about keeping the animal healthy and on a good diet has not kept the creatures from nibbling on my dogs and cats and setting up home in my carpets. Also, the many natural flea products that I have tried have not worked consistently. The main reason is because the fleas lay eggs in the environment - not on the animals. And that is where the biggest problem lies.
So I tried a natural flea treatment service called FLEA BUSTERS that comes to your home and treats your carpets and flooring with a chemical-free Borate powder. It kills the fleas, the larvae and the new fleas once they hatch. My experience was that it took a few months for all eggs to be done hatching (which they explained would be the case) and we've been flea-free ever since.
The company has franchises throughout US. They also sell the powder for people who want to do it themselves or do not have the service in their area. They guarantee the home to be flea free for one year.
If I were the dogs and cats of the world, I would much prefer to not have chemicals put on my skin or in my body every month. Treating the environment is treating the cause. Treating the animals is treating the outcome of the cause. And, I must say that I just don't trust most drug companies to keep our animals safe and healthy. My plan is to treat the house once a year and to use the natural spray products when going on hikes and to parks in order to keep the introduction of new fleas into the environment to a bare minimum.

The Passing of a Very Wise Boy...
Some students were lucky enough to meet Merlin, a very special cat in my life. He joined me for classes in Portland and Eugene, as well as helped at trainings held in my home in Colorado and Oregon. A playful and loving boy always ready to help those wanting to learn. He continues to help even without his physical form.
Merlin taught me to greet life with vigor. "Act as if it's gonna be great before you even know what 'it' is." That was his motto in life. Then he met up with cancer. An aggressively terminal form in his jaw bone. He was shocked when we learned the details, frustrated when we faced the reality, and graceful when he embraced the opportunity he found within the experience.
Six short months after his diagnosis, Merlin died. But he didn't just die, he made peace with the cancer journey and then let go. He lived to the last minute as a teacher. He offered himself to our veterinarian friends as a way to learn what a cat can tolerate without severe distress. He also helped one vet learn about a natural product to treat cancer. During the journey he rubbed, he purred, he cuddled, all while his jaw bone disintegrated. You would not have known the severity of the situation by looking at him. He demonstrated fully how animals can disconnect from pain and suffering and stay present with life.
Merlin showed everyone that even with disease and pain, it doesn't mean the animal is suffering. I have witnessed this message from all the magnificent animals that I talk to during their time of transition. They embrace the inevitable with complete surrender and bliss. A powerful lesson to learn from them. Animals wish to teach us the beauty within death and dying. It is their gift of love to us all. They show us the way...for the journey that will be each of ours some day.
Merlin's message to all: "Take what is in front of you and be with it. The rest will unfold as gracefully as you will allow. - With love from Merlin"

NON-TOXIC AND ECO-FRIENDLY PRODUCTS FOR DOGS & CATS:
This USA company uses recycled materials, minimizes waste, chooses organic options, and creates toys that are 100% recyclable. Nice job. Let's support them!
 | Callum Enjoying His Toys |
Your animals will be grateful. Just take a whiff of some of the plastic and rubber toys that are made for animals. They stink! And if they smell bad to our noses, can you imagine what it's like for their noses? One of many good reasons for non-toxic toys. Thank you to Kelly Felice and family for sharing this website and photo.
